Parents' Frequently Asked Questions

Circulation Policies
All of our students may borrow materials from our library at least once per week. Each class has a regularly scheduled weekly time, but students may also use our library any time during the week, with permission of their teacher. We are open to students during regular school hours. Our circulation period is 1 week for Early Childhood through first grade students and 2 weeks for second through fifth grade students. Kindergarten students begin the school year with a limit of 1 book at a time. This is usually increased to 2 items after the first semester.

Parent Place
We have a parent collection consisting of books and videotapes on parenting, cooking, etc. Keep an eye on this section for new titles as they are added to our collection. We encourage parents to borrow materials. We ask that they limit the number of items checked out at any one time and that they return materials within 2 weeks. Please see Mrs. Zanon, Mrs. Niemiec or Mrs. Hoffman for assistance.

Overdue/Lost/Damaged Materials
We do not charge fines for overdue materials. We do however charge replacement costs for items that are lost or damaged beyond repair. If your child's material(s) become overdue, we send a half sheet notice home with EC through first grade. Older students are reminded with a list sent to their classroom teacher. If a book becomes 30 days overdue we will call home. If this does not bring about the return of the book, we send letters. If the book is lost or damaged a bill will be sent. Please make checks payable to Burleigh Elementary School, and send them to the library.
Children with overdue books may be limited or restricted from borrowing materials until their overdues are returned. In some cases, chronically irresponsible students may be limited to fewer items at a time. Please do not hesitate to call the library if you have any questions. 262-781-5280.
