Mr. Syverson has been on the faculty of Dixon Elementary School teaching band for 18 years. WOW! That is a long time!
What you may not know is that:
He is originally from North Dakota and has a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and a Master of Music degree from the Catholic University of America, in Washington, DC where he also began studying for his Doctor of Musical Arts degree.
Mr. Syverson was a member of The United States Army Band (Pershing's Own) and has performed at the White House, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Kennedy Center and many other interesting places in the Washington, DC area. He even had a White House security clearance! (Ask him sometime, he would love to tell you about it!)
After moving with his wife and son to Waukesha, WI, he began teaching in the public schools, performing with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and was a member of the Waukesha Symphony Orchestra. Currently he is principal trumpet with the Concord Chamber Orchestra, the Nordic Brass Quintet and is a member of the Jazz Express in Waukesha.
In addition to teaching at Dixon Elementary, Mr. Syverson is the Music Resource Teacher for the School District of Elmbrook. That means he gets to do really fun things like music curriculum writing, assist with music staffing for the school district, work with the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts and much, much more!
