District Ranks High with MacIver Institute and Milwaukee Magazine

Two Wisconsin news organizations recently ranked the School District of Elmbrook number one among the state’s largest K-12 school districts and third among Southeast Wisconsin districts.

Elmbrook was at the very top of the MacIver Institute’s rankings of the state’s 50 largest school districts on its “Large School District Report Card.” It received the only “A” in the group.

Metrics used by MacIver were the George W. Bush Presidential Center Global Report Card, WKCE performance in 4th grade reading and 8th grade math, ACT scores and participation, AP scores and participation, four-year graduation rate, district attendance, concentration of students from economically disadvantaged families, and concentration of students with limited English proficiency. Elmbrook was number one in the area of student achievement and student attainment. For the complete report, visit http://maciverinstitute.com/2012/03/maciver-large-school-district-report-card.

In addition, Milwaukee Magazine ranked Elmbrook third among 33 K-12 and 21 K-8 school districts in the five-county Milwaukee area. These rankings took into consideration WKCE, ACT and AP performance. The full report is available at http://www.insidemilwaukee.com/Article/392012-BestSchools.

“While methodologies for ranking school districts vary, it is validating to be competitively ranked by two different news organizations at the same time,” said Superintendent Dr. Matt Gibson. “We appreciate the positive recognition and the performance that prompted it.”

Dr. Gibson said the district’s WKCE performance, highest-ever ACT scores and participation in 2011, and extensive Advanced Placement offerings and participation all contributed to the high rankings. “These recognitions are made possible by a learning community of inspired staff, engaged students, and supportive parents—all focused on our mission to educate and inspire every student to think, to learn, and to succeed.”
