Dr. Denice Haney to Receive Certificate of Excellence

Since 1991 the Community Music Association of Milwaukee (CMA) has been honoring music teachers in our community for excellence in education. On Sunday, May 5, CMA will continue this tradition by hosting its Music Educator Awards Ceremony and 95th Anniversary Celebration. Dr. Denice Haney, orchestra director at Brookfield Central and Brookfield East High Schools, has been selected by CMA to receive a Certificate of Excellence for Instrumental Music. A heartfelt congratulations is extended to Dr. Haney.

BCHS senior named Presidential Scholar Candidate

Central senior, Yi Jiang, has been selected as a candidate from Wisconsin in the 2013 U.S. Presidential Scholars competition. Application is by invitation only based on a student’s performance on the College Board SAT or the ACT assessment.

There are 56 other high school seniors from Wisconsin who have been invited to apply for semi-finalist status.  Semifinalists are chosen by a review committee which evaluates candidate applications on their academic achievement, personal characteristics, leadership and service activities, and the quality and content of their essay.

In late April, the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars reviews the semi-finalist applications and selects up to 121 finalists based on their academic accomplishments.

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors.

The finalists, along with a teacher each identifies as “most influential,” will be honored during the program’s national recognition events, held in June in Washington, D.C.
