Booster Club Creates Athletic Hall of Fame

Booster Club Creates Athletic Hall of Fame

“Honoring the Past who Inspire the Future”

For the entire history of Brookfield Central High School, over 60 years, the Lancers have been fielding some of the most competitive and successful boys’ and girls’ athletic teams, not just in the Milwaukee Metropolitan area, but in the entire state of Wisconsin.  But, for all of those 60+ years, we have failed to formally acknowledge and recognize the outstanding athletes, coaches and contributors who have been an integral part of the school’s athletic success.  No more.

The BCHS Athletic Booster Club, with the support and encouragement of Todd Sobrilsky, Athletic and Activities Director, has for the first time created the Athletic Hall of Fame. Nine (9) individuals, all outstanding athletes, coaches or athletic directors, will be inducted as the inaugural class into the new Athletic Hall of Fame during a banquet to be held in their honor on May 19, 2012, at the Westmoor Country Club in Brookfield. Following the banquet, a plaque honoring each inductee will be prominently displayed on a newly-created Wall of Honor, in the hallway next to the new gymnasium.

Honored that evening will be the following former Athletes:

Austin Ramirez…one of the most highly-decorated swimmers in the school’s history who helped his team win two State Championships;

Kenny Harrison….Olympic Gold Medalist (1996) who still holds three school records in the high jump, long jump and triple jump;

Bill Carollo….the quarterback on a football team that went undefeated for three consecutive years who became an NFL Referee and now serves as the Big Ten Head of Officiating;

Nancy Tyggum-Terrian…a multiple-sport star who earned 11 Varsity letters while helping her Soccer (1) and Tennis (4) teams win a combined 5 State Championships;

Clark Beier and Tom Waterman…who will forever be linked in history.  Best friends, they were selected co-Athlete of the Year, each earning 11 Varsity letters; Beier returned to BCHS to both coach and teach, writing the curriculum for British Literature,   while Waterman joined the US Army, rising to the rank of Brigadier General.

The other three (3) inductees are:

Harley Graf…Central’s first Athletic Director;

Jack Charlesworth….coach and Athletic Director, who pioneered girls’ sports at BCHS;

Dave Steinbach…current Tennis coach and the winningest coach in school history.

The Hall of Fame Banquet is intended to be an annual affair to honor past athletic greats. The public is both welcomed and encouraged to join the Booster Club on May 19th to honor this inaugural class .  For ticket information log onto event.pingg.com/BCHSAthleticHof  .  This site will allow you to purchase tickets with either a credit card or Paypal account.  If you would prefer to pay by check please contact Vicki Bourdow at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
