Chapter 220 Planning Council of the Whole

The meeting was called to order by President Meg Wartman at 6:03 p.m. according to Wis. Stats. 19.85. Motion by Tom Gehl to approve the agenda. Seconded by Gary Jones. It was pointed out to the Planning Council that a motion concerning Chapter 220 Seats for 2009-2010 would be advisory to the Board for discussion and action. The motion carried on a voice vote. The October 27, 2007 Chapter 220 Planning Council of the Whole minutes were provided for information and had been approved by the Board on November 13, 2007.

Marty Armato, Director of Student Services and Post Secondary Student Learning, provided a status report for 2008-09 Chapter 220 program that included a total of 28 students enrolled, a 2009-2010 administrative  recommendation of opening 27 new seats plus contingencies (additional siblings, additional seats if needed, and displaced student(s) due to MPS transportation zone plan), an alternative motion to open 10 new seats plus contingencies as listed above, and alternative motion to open 37 new seats plus contingencies as listed above in response to a letter from the Menomonee Falls School District on behalf of the regional Chapter 220 Scenario Planning Committee.

Sam Jackoyo and Qiana Collins introduced themselves and the grade levels their children are attending in Elmbrook schools and Beth Wilson introduced herself and the grade levels her children are attending in Milwaukee Public Schools.

Following Board discussion and requests for clarification of the administrative recommendation and alternate motions, motion by Steve Schwei to open 27 new seats for students in kindergarten through grade 2 plus five additional seats for siblings in kindergarten through grade 2 where space is projected to be available, five additional seats if needed and one seat for a displaced 6th, 7th or 9th grade student due to MPS transportation zone plan for a total of 38 seats. Seconded by Bob Ziegler and carried on a voice vote.

Motion by Steve Schwei to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Glen Allgaier and carried on a voice vote. The meeting adjourned at 7:14 p.m.
