Policy 5121.1 – Class Examination Exemptions
(Policy Reference 5131.2)
Eligibility:
Class examination exemptions are a student privilege to be earned by attaining eligibility criteria throughout a semester. An examination exemption shall be available to any student in either high school who meets the following academic and attendance-based criteria:
- Grade of A (93 or higher prior to test administration at the end of a semester) in the course to be exempted during the semester in which the exemption is to occur.
- No unexcused absences in any period throughout the semester in which the exemption is to occur.
- No more than five excused absences from any single class period throughout the semester; school-related absences (such as field trips, athletic competitions, rehearsals) do not count toward the five absence limitation.
- No more than one study hall on the student's schedule during the semester in which the exemption is to occur.
- No violations of the Academic Honesty policy (5131.2) in any course during the semester in which the exemption is to occur.
Implementation:
The student shall identify the course to be exempted by second/fourth quarter mid-nines. He/she may elect to exempt one exam per semester, though not the same course for both semesters. Exams for Advanced Placement, transcripted credit, or fifth year world language courses shall not be exempted.
Given that class examination exemptions are a student privilege to be earned by attaining eligibility criteria throughout the semester, they are not a student right and are not subject to appeal, should the eligibility criteria not be earned in a given semester.
No person shall be denied admission to any public school in the District or be denied participation in, be denied the benefits of or be discriminated against in any curricular, co-curricular, pupil services, recreational or other program or activity because of the person's gender, race, religion, national origin, ancestry, creed, pregnancy, marital or parental status, sexual orientation or physical, mental, emotional or learning disability
The District encourages informal resolution of complaints under this policy. However, if any person believes that the District or any part of the school organization has failed to follow the law and rules of Wis. Stats. 118.13 and PI 9, Wis. Admin. Code, or in some way discriminates against persons on the bases listed above, he/she may bring or send a written complaint to the Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services, School District of Elmbrook, 13780 Hope Street, P.O.
