Brookfield Central High School
2nd Semester
Exam Exemption Process
& Time-line
Final Exams: June 8th, 9th & 10th
The process for which students are to follow in order to be eligible and granted one (1) final exam exemption is as follows:
SURVEY: May 3rd students will receive an email with a link to a class course exemption survey. This survey will let us know what class, hour and teacher the student wishes to exempt. NOTICE: Students, you must use your own login when taking this survey. To avoid our 1st Semester confusion, you will only be able to respond to the survey once. Respondents that attempt to return to a completed survey are not able to modify their original responses, so please be certain of your choice. Deadline for the survey will be midnight on Friday, May 7th.
TEACHERS REVIEW: May 24th – 28th, teachers will review the requests and determine if the student meets the grade criteria. Deadline for teacher review is Friday, May 28th.
REPORT/ELIGIBILITY: June 1st all requests will be run through a filter to determine eligibility (District Policy 5121.1):
1. Grade of A+, A, or A- prior to test in the course to be exempted.
2. No unexcused absences in any period throughout the Semester.
3. No more than five (5) excused absences from any single class period in the current semester – not just in the one you want to exempt. School related absences such as field trips, athletic competitions, and rehearsals do not count against you.
4. No more than one (1) study hall in the current semester.
5. No Academic Honesty violations in any course in the current semester.
Regarding Attendance - Students, you are responsible for making sure your attendance status is accurate before June 1st. Be sure to check the parent/student portal often.
Implementation: The student shall identify the course to be exempted by second/fourth quarter mid-nines. He/she may elect to exempt one exam per semester, though not the same course for both semesters. Exams for Advanced Placement, transcripted credit, or fifth year world language courses shall not be exempted
STUDENTS NOTIFIED of ELIGIBILTY: Thursday, June 3rd students, administration and teachers will be notified if they are eligible. (Students will get individual emails and teachers will get hard copy lists.)
Note: A student has the right to change their mind and take an exam they registered to exempt – they just can't choose to exempt a different one. The deadline to put in a request is May 7th. Students should check their outlook email accounts on May 3rd for the survey link.
