Mission of the Friends of Fairview South

 

To support the Fairview South program by raising community awareness, supplementing current funding needs, and pursuing solutions to the long-term facility needs of the school.

There will always be a variety of educational programs and settings available to meet the needs of all students.

 

Background Information and Goals

 

As part of the high school referendum, the Elmbrook School District proposed the inclusion of the 20 Elmbrook students from Fairview South into the high school configuration. The loss of those Elmbrook students from the Fairview South program would result in a significant decrease in the program's critical mass of students, resulting in an increased cost for the remaining school districts in the consortium. The eventual downside to this plan would be the eventual dissolve of the Fairview South program as we know it, due to the increased tuition costs required to provide the same caliber of programming to a smaller population of students with such highly specialized needs.

 

A facility task force committee researched and reviewed the options for the Fairview South program. The facility task force determined that it was important to maintain the current programming in a separate facility to provide security, dignity, and autonomy for the students. As a result of this study and the threat of the loss of the option of the separate educational facility, a group of concerned parents and staff formed the group, Friends of Fairview South (FOFVS). The mission of the FOFVS is to promote awareness for the students who do not have a voice and to garner the financial support needed to maintain the operations in a building that needs repairs.

 

After two years of fundraising, the FOFVS garnered the support of fundraising consultants to provide advice on how to proceed with the current dilemma of how to secure the $3 million dollars needed to make the necessary repairs to the Fairview South building. The results of the consultant's feasibility study provided the following direction for the group:

• Expand fundraising efforts

 

            Explore Alternative Options

• Explore partnerships with businesses/ interested groups
• Explore other site locations
• Explore other operational structures
