Lions stun Lancers
Ike scores 2 in the 7th for a 6-5 WIAA Playoff win

7/19 - It was hard to believe, but the Central baseball team could not separate themselves from Ike, stranding 10 baserunners and letting the Lions hang around long enough to pull out a dramatic win.  Nate Ley, and Mike Lysonski both had two hits for the Lancers, while Dan Sturgill finished a long and distinguished career with three hits.

Lancers keep rolling!

7/16 - In the final tune-up game before the playoffs, Central wasted no time in disposing of the Greendale Panthers, posting 11 runs in the first inning, and adding six more in the fourth for a 17-1 victory in five innings.  Steve Smith and Alex Tomter combined their efforts on the hill, holding Greendale to four hits while striking out five.  Offensively, Central was clicking right out of the starting gate with five players (Nate Ley, Dan Sturgill, Steve Klicka, Lee Severson, Josh Gohr) all collecting multiple hits.  With the victory, Central improves its overall record to 21-23.

Four in a row!

7/13 - The Lancers waited until the very end of the season, but better late than never as Central has now won four straight games as well as six out of the last eight.  Freshman Lee Severson gutted through 4 1/3 innings on the hill surrendering four hits with two strikeouts without walking a batter.  Junior Chad Okray came in to finish things up pitching 2 2/3, and picking up the decision in the 3-1 victory over Hartland Arrowhead.  Junior Brent Severson, and Senior Steve Klicka both had big RBI singles in the top of the seventh.  Junior Mike Lysonski hit the ball on the nose all night collecting three hits in four trips to the plate.  With the win the Lancers reach the 20 win mark!

Seniors step up big!

7/12 - It was Senior Night at McCoy Park in Brookfield, and the Seniors certainly rose to the occasion making certain that the final home game at McCoy would not end in disappointment.  After a slow start and a lot of poor defense, the Lancers found themselves down 8-1 after 1 1/2 innings of play.  Senior Dan Sturgill was the first Senior to step up with a stellar five innings of shutout ball on the hill, yielding only 1 hit while striking out four in getting the win.  Senior Sean McPherson was the next Senior to step up with a huge 2 RBI single to left in the bottom of the fifth giving the Lancers the lead for good 10-8.  Finally, Senior Steve Klicka crushed a double to the left-center gap plating two more much needed insurance runs and giving Central what would be the final tally of 12-8.  Yes, some underclassmen also contributed with Nate Ley, Josh Gohr, and Chad Okray having multiple hit games.  With the win the Lancers final conference mark finishes at 10-11.  Central will now hit the road tomorrow night and travel to Hartland Arrowhead for a 5:30pm non-conference game.

Smith dominates top ranked Marquette!

7/11 - Senior Steve Smith is saving some of his best performances at the tail end of his three year varsity careerThe Senior RHP was in complete control, baffling a talented Hilltopper squad, and making clutch pitches with two outs, leaving Marquette base runners stranded in the 2-0 win.  Smith has now only allowed 5 ER's in his last 28 1/3 innings of GMC work to go with a total of 58 strikeouts on the year.  Freshman Mike Bogard had the big hit for Central with an RBI Triple with two outs in the bottom of the second, while Brent Severson also added a two out RBI single in the fifth.  Senior Steve Klicka added two hits in as many trips to the plate.  The Lancers GMC record now stands at 9-11 with Brookfield East coming to McCoy for the league finale.

Central 8, Homestead 6

7/09 - Freshman Mike Bogard stretched his record on the hill to a perfect 7-0, striking out four and only walking one.  Alex Tomter came in to put out the fire and slam the door for his first save.  Junior Brent Severson had the big hit with a clutch 3 RBI double, just after Senior Steve Klicka's two RBI single in a 7 run sixth.  Junior Josh Gohr also had two hits for the Lancers.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Whitefish Bay 8, Central 7 (9 innings)

7/09 - Central could not nail down a three run lead going into the bottom of the ninth.  Sophomore Eric Gordon pitched 7 2/3 innings of solid baseball, and Nate Ley, Josh Gohr, Lee Severson, Mike Lysonski, and Mike Bogard all had multiple hit games.

Lancers back on the winning track

7/08 - In true Lancer style, Central refused to fall into any kind of pattern and bounced back to defeat Sussex 7-3.  Senior Dan Sturgill took control of the game on the hill striking out three and allowing only four hits.  The offense showed some signs of life with 11 hits collectively.  Senior Steve Klicka went 3-3, continuing a hot streak with 4 hits in his last 5 AB'sSturgill also drove in two runs with a double and two hits, and Brent Severson also added two hits for the Lancers.  Central now tours the east side taking on North Shore conference opponents Whitefish Bay @ 3pm, and Homestead @ 8pm on Saturday.

Al scalps the Indians!

7/05 - Junior RHP Alex Tomter took the hill for the Lancers against a Falls team that had won 13 games in a row, and was averaging more than 10 runs per game during that stretch.  All of that didn't seem to phase Al as he proceeded to go right at the Falls hitters, making big pitches when he had to, and out "willing" the Falls to a 6-2 victory for the Lancers.  Tomter struck out five Falls hitters and scattered six hits while allowing one earned run.  The offense seemed to show some signs of life with 10 hits as Nate Ley, Dan Sturgill, and Ryan Fletcher had multiple hit games for Central.  The Lancers improve to 7-10 in the GMC, and 15-21 overall with a trip to Tosa East waiting on Thursday.

Waukesha Firecracker Tournament

Waukesha West 8, Central 3

7/04 - Once again the bats were silent and the Lancers could not get back into the game after falling behind 8-0.

--------------------------------------------------

Central 2, Waukesha North 1

7/02 - Freshman RHP Mike Bogard pushed his record on the hill to 6-0, going the distance scattering five hits.  Senior captain Dan Sturgill provided the clutch hit in the seventh, a 3-2 curve ball served into right-center for the game winner.  The Lancers now play in the 5th place game on Monday at 11am.

--------------------------------------------------
Milwaukee Lancers 3, Central 1

7/01 - Central could only muster six hits in the game with Junior Josh Gohr collecting three.  Dan Sturgill turned in a quality pitching performance going the distance and striking out four in the loss.

Two out runs do Lancers in

6/30 - Central surrendered a total of seven two out runs with nobody on, over two innings to Marquette, which proved to be too many in a 9-6 loss.  After tying the score 2-2, Marquette pulled away and a four run rally in the seventh for the Lancers came up short.  Brent Severson, and Mike Bogard each had two hits for Central.  The Lancers will now compete in the Waukesha Firecracker Tournament, starting with a 2pm game against the Milwaukee Lancers at Waukesha West.

"Smitty" hurls a gem!

6/28 - Senior RHP Steve Smith took a no-hit game into the sixth inning, and posted a career high 14 strikeouts in a truly magnificent performance that resulted in a 9-2 conference victory over Sussex Hamilton.  Steve showed great poise on the hill making several key 3-2 pitches as well as mixing up his stuff and keeping Sussex hitters guessing all night.  Junior Josh Gohr got the offense going in the bottom of the first with an RBI single to start his three hit evening, and Ryan Fletcher added to his RBI total with two more.  Junior Brent Severson smoked his 15th double of the season to go with two more RBI's.  The Lancers will now travel to MATC South field to play 2nd ranked Marquette on Thursday.

Tomter, Fletcher "clutch up" for the Lancers

6/27 - Junior RHP Alex Tomter lowered his ERA in conference to 1.68 with seven innings of total control on the hill, striking out four, and not allowing an earned run in a 5-1 GMC win over Brookfield East.  Ryan Fletcher broke a 1-1 tie wide open with a ringing 3 RBI double to the right-center alley in the fourth inning, giving Central the lead for good.  With the win, the Lancers improve to 5-9 in the GMC, and 12-18 overall.  Sussex comes to McCoy tomorrow for a 5:30pm game.

Bogard gets Central a "W"

6/24 - Freshman RHP Mike Bogard improved his record on the hill to an impressive 5-0, and got the Lancers a much needed win over Cedarburg 9-4.  "Bogey's" command of his pitches has been equally impressive, as for the season Mike is averaging 0.72 walks per game as he did not allow a free pass and recorded seven strikeouts.  After three consecutive losses the Lancers snapped out of an offensive funk with 12 hits.  Nate Ley, Brent Severson, and Ryan Fletcher each had two.  Freshman Lee Severson continued his torrid pace at the plate raising his average to a team leading .388 with consecutive three hit games.  Central now looks to improve the conference record as they travel to Brookfield East for a 5:30pm tilt on Monday.

Lancers lose third straight

6/23 - After scoring four runs in the first three innings, Central was silent for the final four, as they did not have an answer that resulted in a 6-4 loss to Menomonee Falls.  Senior Steve Smith went the distance on the hill, and deserved a better outcome, only allowing two earned runs, and striking out seven Falls hitters.  But, the Lancers shaky defense has been making it very tough for the pitching staff.  Offensively, Freshman Lee Severson had three hits, including a two-run double in the third that gave the Lancers a brief 4-3 lead.  Central now tries to get back on track when they travel to Cedarburg for a non-conference game.

Ouch!

6/21 - The Lancers did not come ready to play and quickly found themselves down 8-0 after an ugly second inning.  The end result was a 10-0 defeat in five innings.  Central will have to regroup on Thursday when rival Menomonee Falls comes to town for a 5:30pm contest.

Knights too strong for Lancers

6/20 - Junior RHP Alex Tomter kept the talented Oak Creek hitters off balance all evening long, only surrendering a two out, two run homer to Tony Butler in the sixth.  But the Knights managed to scratch out a run in the seventh, and the Lancers squandered their opportunities to finish the deal succumbing to the Knights 8-3 in 9 innings.  The loss leaves Central with a 4-7 mark in the GMC, and a 10-16 overall record as they travel to South Milwaukee tomorrow evening.

Blackshirt Wood Bat Classic

6/18 - Central 7, Campbellsport 0
6/17 - Waukesha West 16, Lancers 6 (5 inn.)
6/17 - Lancers 8, Germantown 6

Once again Lancers fail to finish

6/16 - Like Yogi Berra said it was like deja vu all over again, as the Lancers jumped out to a 7-1 lead, and led 8-2 after four, but that was all Central would get and West Allis Hale stormed back to eventually win 9-8 in an eight inning ball game.  The tough loss puts the Lancers at 4-6 in the GMC, and 8-14 overall.  Central will now participate in the Waukesha South Blackshirt Wood Bat Classic, playing Germantown at 4pm, and Waukesha West at 7pm, both games will be played at Waukesha West High School.

New Berlin West stuns Lancers

6/15 - Central found themselves taking a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, only to watch it disappear and watch the Vikings score four times for a disheartening 4-3 loss.  Sophomore Eric Gordon turned in a terrific performance in six innings of work.  Offensively, the Lancers spread out the hits with Mike Lysonski, and Ryan Fletcher both notching two.  Central gets back to conference play tomorrow when they host West Allis Hale.

Sturgill takes the bark out of the Bulldogs

6/14 - Senior captain Dan Sturgill helped the Lancers continue their conference winning ways by going the distance on the hill, allowing one run and striking out five West Allis Central hitters in a 5-1 victory.  Dan also had two hits in three trips at the plate to go with an RBI.  Senior John Lukic added two hits for the offense with an RBI, and Josh Gohr and Mike Bogard chipped in a hit apiece.  The Lancers record now improves to 4-5 in the GMC, and 8-12 overall.  Central will travel to New Berlin West for a 5pm non-conference game tomorrow night.

Tomter saddles the Sabres!

6/13 - Junior Alex Tomter was everything that was anticipated going into the season, he had command and pinpoint control, as he frustrated Franklin all evening in getting a complete game 4-1 victory.  Tomter coming off of an injured right hand, also had a base hit and an RBI to help his own cause.  Junior Josh Gohr contributed an RBI single in the fourth to take the lead, and Junior Brent Severson's two out 2 RBI single in the seventh gave the Lancers much needed breathing room.  Senior Dan Sturgill was also 1-1 on the evening at the plate.  With the win, Central improves to 3-5 in the GMC, and 7-12 overall, as they host West Allis Central tomorrow evening.

6/11 - Central 4, Cudahy 0
Arrowhead 6, Central 2

Smith leads Lancers to victory

6/10 - Senior Righty, Steve Smith took care of business right when Central needed it most, with a brilliant complete game win, striking out eight Muskego hitters in a 6-2 final.  Smith made his best pitches when he needed to, getting a strike out with the bases loaded in the fifth with the game tied, an inning in which "Smitty" K'd the side.  At the plate Nate Ley, and Josh Gohr both recorded multiple hit games.  However the big hits were in the seventh, with an RBI single by Chad Okray to take the lead, and a pinch hit 3 RBI double by Freshman Lee Severson to stretch the Lancers lead to four.  Central will now take on Cudahy at 11am, and Arrowhead at 2pm in couple of non-conference Saturday home games.

Tosa East takes care of the Lancers

6/9 - Wauwatosa East overcame an early 3-0 deficit and scored 11 runs in two innings to take a commanding lead and stay in second place in the GMC North with a 15-7 win.  Offensively for the Lancers Junior captain Brent Severson went 4-5 with 2 2B's and 2 RBI's.  Central will now travel to Muskego for a 5:30 pm GMC game.

Greendale 9, Lancers 6
Lancers 8, Tosa West 7 (8 inn.)

Central defeats East

Brookfield Central took care of business on Thursday evening by getting on top early, and in workman like fashion coming away with an 11-1 GMC victory over cross-town rival Brookfield East.  Steve Smith went the distance for the Lancers, striking out four and only walking one, with 0 "earnies".  Offensively, once again it was a team effort with Josh Gohr's 2 RBI double, and Dan Sturgill's 2 RBI single standing out.  Central will now look to the weekend where they will host two non-conference games.

Lancers finish the deal!

After being down 6-3 going into the bottom of the fourth, Central came storming back with six runs, and held off a talented Marquette team for a 12-9 GMC victory.  Dan Sturgill gutted out 4 1/3 innings without his best stuff to get his second win of the season, and Junior Chad Okray put out the fire and closed out the win getting his second save of the year.  Offensively, the Lancers pounded out 13 hits with four different players garnering multiple hit games.  Central continues conference play when they host Brookfield East at McCoy on Thursday evening.

(win = 8pm game, loss = 3:30pm game)

Tosa East gets by Central

Tosa East scored five times in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a GMC game from the Lancers by a score of 8-6.  Senior Steve Smith pitched brilliantly, keeping Tosa off balance for five innings scattering six hits while only allowing one base on balls, and showing great command.  In the sixth Smith walked three?  Ryan Fletcher, and Lee Severson both had multiple hit games, while Junior captain Brent Severson also had two hits, one a long blast to deep left center for his first homer of the year.  The loss drops Central to 1-2 in the GMC, and 2-3 overall.  The Lancers will now travel to West Bend for a tournament opener with South Milwaukee at 7pm.

(Game will be played at Decorah park right across the street from West Bend East/West High School)

Lancers take a step back

Despite loading the bases on offense in the first two innings, Central found themselves staring at a 6-0 deficit after two innings of play.  Central proceeded to fight back to take the lead 8-7 in the sixth, but after out hitting Sussex 12-8, the Lancers found themselves on the losing end of a 10-8 final.  Steve Klicka, Brent Severson, Josh Gohr, and Eric Gordon all had multiple hit games for Central, as the record now drops to 1-1 in the GMC, and 2-2 overall.  Tosa East waits for Central tomorrow for a 5:30pm conference game at Breitlow Field.

Lancers triumphant in conference opener!

Brookfield Central got out of the gates with a five run third inning, and that proved to be all the run support that Dan Sturgill needed on the hill.  Sturgill threw a complete game four hitter striking out six and not allowing an earned run.  Nate Ley continued his torrid pace at the dish with three hits to go with a double, and an RBI.  Steve Klicka added two hits of his own, one being an absolute tater to left-center, netting two RBI's, and Ryan Fletcher also added two hits of his own.  The complete team effort resulted in a 7-3 win over rival Menomonee Falls, and a 1-0 start in the GMC.  Central will travel to Sussex tomorrow for a 5:30 tilt.

Young Lancers lose a close one

A late rally fell a little short as the Lancers stranded 10 runners including the bases full as the tying run stood on second base.  Freshman Lee Severson was impressive on the hill in his starting varsity debut, striking out four while only walking one Germantown hitter.  Steve Klicka and John Lukic both had multiple hit games, while Lukic, Ryan Fletcher, and Brent Severson all hit doubles.  The 6-4 loss evens Brookfield Central's record at 1-1 overall.  The Lancers open up conference play tomorrow as they travel to Menomonee Falls for a 5:30pm contest.

Smith, Sturgill lead Lancers to opening day victory

Senior Steve Smith started shaky, but settled down to go five strong innings on the hill striking out four as Brookfield Central outlasted a stubborn Whitnall team 11-6. Pre-season All-State player Dan Sturgill proved very deserving of the honor hitting the ball hard all day, going 4-5 with four RBI's. Brent Severson and Nate Ley both had multiple hit games and each had a double. Steve Klicka and Sean McPherson also added a hit each for the Lancers. Chad Okray came to the hill in the sixth and put out the fire with a big strikeout to end a Whitnall rally with the bases loaded and the go-ahead run on first base. The win once again gets the Lancers started in the win column, as Central will host Germantown in another non-conference game on Monday with a game time start of 5:30pm.
