2007-08 Curriculum Committee Goals:

  • Explore 21st century skills.
  • Assist new assistant superintendent in identifying curriculum priorities in a busy system.
  • Investigate regional partnerships/options to sustain/expand curricular offerings/innovation during times of limited funding.

Relationship to Broad Strategic Initiatives 1-Student/school performance, 4-Continuous improvement, and Baldrige Category 6-Education process management


Policy 9414 - Curriculum Committee
(Policy Reference 9401)


The committee shall consist of three members of the Board of Education and shall review and present to the Board recommendations concerning matters pertaining to the curriculum and graduation requirements of the District. The duties of the Curriculum Committee shall be:

1. To become familiar and knowledgeable about the curriculum,
    curricular issues, and the total instructional program of the
    District in order to be able to provide information and
    recommendations to the Board.

2. To establish district requirements and become familiar with
    state requirements concerning curriculum, instruction and
    assessment so as to use such knowledge in decisions
    affecting the district.

3. To evaluate curricular programs through various methods
    and sources such as staff, parent/community, student and
    graduate surveys/input, student achievement data and
    other districts experience with curricular programs.

4. To discuss, review and recommend proposed changes,
    additions or deletions in curriculum and instructional
    programs and related costs to the Board.

5. To review and recommend graduation requirements to
    the Board.

6. To review and recommend Board Policy regarding
    curriculum to the Board Policy and Legislative Committee.

7. To review and recommend textbook adoptions to the Board.

8. To review and recommend summer curriculum writing and
    projects to the Board, including strategies for sharing of such
    work, among the schools.

9. To review and recommend summer school programs to the
    Board.

10. To complete annual committee goals as assigned by the Board.

11. To consider any other curriculum matters as determined by the
      committee or assigned by the Board.

The Curriculum Committee of the Board may work in conjunction with the District Curriculum Planning Committee in the process of reviewing proposals and funding and making recommendations to the Board.
