April 2007 Referendum
The School Board voted on January 23, 2007 to go to referendum with two questions for voters at the April 3, 2007 election.
If both had passed, the District would have had bonding authority of up to $108.8-million to pay for:
- demolition of portions of both schools,
- extensive renovation of remaining portions of both schools,
- building two-story academic additions at both schools,
- converting and adding to limited existing phy-ed and athletic space,
> create at each school, a four station gymnasium with indoor running/walking tracks and adequate seating.
- re-arrange and re-pave the entrances and parking lots surrounding both schools for better traffic flow, safety and drainage.
See renderings of the proposed facilities at each high school. (This plan was defeated.)
NOTE: This plan failed 60%-no to 40%-yes in a large voter turnout. The amount of the property tax increment for twenty years, on an average home of $335,000, would have been $191 annually; because of prefunding (defeasance) of other debt the overall annual cost to the same average home would have been $342 annually for a total of $6,840 over twenty years ($342 x 20 = $6,840).
