As principal of Brookfield East High School, I am proud to welcome you to the BEHS website. Our school motto reads, "Dedicated to academic and human excellence." By many measures and in many ways, these words drive our efforts to provide East students with the most meaningful and enriching learning experiences—both in and out of the classroom—that we can.
With a wide range of courses, athletic teams, and clubs and activities, East affords all of our students the opportunity to feel involved in the school and invested in their high school experience. Due to our sincere commitment to helping all students to reach their intellectual potential, East offers 20 Advanced Placement classes, rigorous courses of study in all academic areas, and a range of enrichment opportunities through its gifted and talented programming. For students who need more individualized support to succeed academically, we offer programs like Read 180, Spartan Academy, GEDO2, the Learning Center, and the Advantage Program. Our faculty and staff is an energized, committed, and caring group of adults who strive to meet students' academic needs while guiding them socially and emotionally as they mature into adults.
The combined efforts of Brookfield East's students, faculty, staff, and administration continue to produce exceptional results. East students are academic leaders in the region, the state, and the nation. For example, tenth grade achievement on the 2006-2007 Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts (WKCE) exam was exceptional, with between 92 and 96 percent of students meeting or exceeding state standards in each area tested. A school record-setting 87% of the Class of 2007 took the ACT, earning a composite score of 24.5, among the top in Wisconsin. Fifteen members of East's Class of 2007 earned some level of National Merit distinction, with eight being named National Merit Semi-finalists. Such high levels of success translate into countless opportunities for our students, with over 90 percent of East graduates gaining admission into the post-secondary option of their choice.
Outside the classroom, students have numerous outlets for their unique talents, skills, and passions. Professional and enthusiastic coaches lead nearly 60 high-caliber athletic teams in 20 sports; outstanding and dedicated educators coach and advise a long list of co-curricular activities. From football to forensics, soccer to science club, and in a number of other teams and organizations, students are given the chance to hone their skills, appreciate the value of commitment, and develop healthy relationships with peers and adults. The results of our students', coaches', and advisors' efforts are exceptional. In 2006-2007, East athletes earned six Greater Metro Conference team championships; four athletes earned "Athlete of the Year" honors in their respective sports. The boys soccer team finished as runner-up in the Division I State Tournament, adding to the storied history of BEHS athletics that includes 11 state championships and 21 state runners-up titles. In 2007, the Brookfield East forensics team earned its first ever State Championship and qualified a number of students for national competitions. Not to be outdone, our music program—comprised of band, choir, and orchestra—once again gained entrance to invitation-only national festivals and competed successfully at the highest levels. In 2006-2007 the orchestra earned accolades at a national festival in Detroit, and the East marching band represented the school and Wisconsin at a festival at Walt Disney World. These achievements build upon the school's Grammy Signature Gold Award, an honor bestowed on no other school in Wisconsin and on only 16 other schools in the nation in its inaugural year. A host of clubs and service opportunities round out the range of options for East's students to find their niche, grow and learn, and distinguish themselves.
In the classroom and beyond, the students and adults who comprise the Brookfield East High School community make this school an exceptional place in which to learn and teach. I invite you to explore our website, visit us, or call us at (262) 781-3500 to learn more about the tradition of excellence and the spirit of pride that sets Brookfield East apart.
Go, Spartans!
