What is FMP?
- Provides freshmen with a supportive environment that helps to ease his or her transition from middle school to high school.
- Meets 4 days (not Thursdays) for 18 minutes each day during their lunch hour
- Being welcomed to BCHS at Freshmen Orientation on September 4, 2007.
- Ongoing orientation to high school (building, policies/procedures, programs, traditions and personnel).
- Frequent monitoring of academic progress.
- An opportunity to participate in study teams and/or have access to tutorial assistance.
- A mechanism for increasing students' awareness regarding academic and extra-curricular opportunities.
Student Mentor Expectations
- Attend school
- Attend homeroom Monday-Wednesday and Fridays for the full academic year
- Attend all FMP meetings throughout the school year
- Attend Freshmen Orientation
- Follow academic honesty
- Maintain good grades, behave appropriately in and out of school, abide by all BCHS rules and regulations, abide by all FMP rules and expectations, and dress appropriately throughout the entire school year.
- Be a role model in and out of the classroom.
- Develop and nurture a respectful relationship with the homeroom teacher, counselors, director, and each freshman in your homeroom.
Homeroom Teacher Expectations:
- Aid the student mentors in any way necessary
- Supervise the class of students
- Organize/help/participate in activities
- Perform all administrative duties associated with a class (attendance, seating chart, etc.)
- Maintain a positive atmosphere and classroom environment
- Attendance at FMP meetings throughout the school year
