The best practice of care is to keep a child home for a minimum of 24 hours after illness symptoms appear.
Health Room Guidelines for Return to School After and Illness:

No fever (oral temperature of 100 degrees or more) for a minimum of 24 hours without the aid of fever-lowering medications.

No vomiting for a minimum of 24 hours.

No watery stools for at least 24 hours.

No rash for a minimum of 24 hours unless written release is provided from the health care provider.

After a minimum of 24 hours on a prescribed antibiotic.
