President Meg Wartman called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. Public notice of the meeting was provided in accordance with Chapter 19.85 Wis. Stats. Motion by Tom Gehl that the Board of Education approves the May 13, 2008 agenda. Seconded by Bob Ziegler and carried on a voice vote.
The Board reviewed Policy 6142.3 – Human Growth and Development revisions received from the Human Growth and Development Advisory Committee. The Board suggested several additional changes including: a) revising #3 under Parental/Guardian Rights on page 2 to state Parent/guardians may exempt their students from human growth and development lessons that include but are not limited to physiology and hygiene, sexually transmitted infections, symptoms of disease and proper care of the body by written request each school year; b) add parent review process of materials to include the Human Growth and Development Advisory Committee as well as solicited parents; and c) look at rationale for the provision that only secondary students shall be graded for work assigned as listed in the first sentence on page #2. The policy will be reviewed by the Policy and Legislative Committee prior to returning to the Board for first reading. The Board requested that materials for human growth and development include purchased materials.
Motion by Glen Allgaier to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by David Marcello and carried on a voice vote. The meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
