Course Description
This course is designed to introduce you to the functions of the human body. We will gradually go through the human body as it relates to physical activity. Towards the end of the class you will get a chance to discover health and fitness professions you may be interested in.
Course Objectives
1. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the skeletal system and the major muscles of voluntary control.
2. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge about the application of basic physics to human movement.
3. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the structure of striated muscle tissue and the physiology of muscular function.
4. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge about the effects of exercise on the nervous, circulatory, respiratory, and endocrine systems.
5. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge pertaining to the overall nutritional and metabolic impact of exercise and training.

1. Introduction and Anatomical Terminology
2. Bones and Skeletal Structure
3. Voluntary Muscles
4. Vital Organs (Brain, Heart, and Respiratory systems)
5. Professions in Health/Medical Care
Grading Criteria
15% Attendance and Participation
Daily attendance required
15% Lab Activities & Homework
Students will be given in class or homework to complete by a specific date. Late work will result in 50% credit.
30% Quizzes
Friday Quizzes will be included in this grade.
30% Unit Tests
3 unit tests for the semester each one will be 10% of your final grade.
10% Final Presentation
Cumulative group presentation
100-93% = A
92-85% = B
84-77% = C
76-70% = D
69 and below = F
Materials Needed
1. Three Ring Binder with loose-leaf paper
2. Note cards
3. Colored pencils or pens
(for labeling bones and muscles)
