Mission Statement / Library Media Program Commitment

(Statement of linkage between the Library Media Program and District Beliefs/ Mission and Learner Outcomes)

The Elmbrook Library Media program provides for the development of the student by supporting the teaching and learning process. In accordance with Board-approved selection policy, the program provides access to and promotes effective use of a balanced collection of materials which depict, in an accurate and unbiased manner, the cultural diversity and pluralistic nature of society. Library media personnel collaborate with other staff members to teach the District Learner Outcomes. An integrated instruction program develops skills in preparing for research: gathering relevant information, interpreting and evaluating information, and applying information. In response to our ever-changing technological and global society, innovative uses of instructional resources are encouraged to help students and staff to succeed.

The resources of a school library media center provide each student the opportunity to find media and materials to meet the student's needs for information (and leisure learning) at the level and in the format which is appropriate for each learner. The instructional media program also serves as a stepping stone to the use of other library resources in the community and encourages students to develop the lifetime habit of library media use. Teaching students to become intelligent, responsible users of media resources is the long-term goal of the library media program. Student success will come from the cooperative effort of teachers, library media personnel, administrators, parents, and students.
