Mrs. Kitty Janas, Burleigh Elementary Associate Principal, was recognized as the 2017 Brookfield Jaycees Outstanding Educator at the Distinguished Service awards banquet on February 17. Kitty is in her 23rd year as an educator in Elmbrook and was honored for her service and leadership at Burleigh and across the District.

In his introductory remarks, Superintendent Dr. Mark Hansen highlighted that “Kitty is an invaluable member of the Burleigh team. She wears many hats: administrator, mentor, advisor, colleague, friend and many more! She continues to shape the school culture and climate through her contributions.”

Kitty has demonstrated an unbelievable character trait of service to others. Perhaps the most visible is her effort to organize the “Stuff the Bus” food drive that resulted in 25,500 pounds of food collected and donated to the Hunger Task Force last November. Swanson Elementary School Principal, Kori Hartman, offered the following words in her nomination of Kitty for this award, “Through her leadership of the ‘Stuff the Bus’ food drive, she inspires students in all five elementary schools to make giving a priority.”

Congratulations to Kitty Janas for being recognized as the 2017 Brookfield Jaycees Outstanding Educator!
