Brookfield East Class of 1970

1970 Brookfield East alumna, Carol Chetney, has given back to her alma mater with over 45 years of service!

Carol came to Brookfield East her Freshman year after transferring in from St. Mary's Visitation School in Elm Grove. During her high school career, she was actively involved in a number of activities including Synchronized Swimming and Future Business Leaders of America. "My Elmbrook education allowed me to excel in so many areas, academic and beyond, and I am so grateful for all the opportunities that it has opened up for me through the years," said Chetney.

Following her 1970 graduation, Carol attended Prospect Business College in pursuit of her degree as a Legal Secretary. "I was able to complete my two-year associate program in one year, thanks to my Elmbrook education and the number of credits I was able to earn during my time there," she reflected. In August of 1971, Carol received her Associate Degree and returned to Elmbrook Schools as the Administrative Assistant of Fairview South, combining her studies and her passion for special education.

In 1990, she received recognition for her work with an Outstanding Employee Award based on a nomination from her colleagues at Fairview South. The next year, Chetney transferred from her position at Fairview South to the role of Executive Assistant to the Superintendent. In her new position, she was responsible for organizing district events, to documenting board meetings, and countless other tasks. "After 44 years working for the district, I can honestly say that there was something different every day at work," said Chetney. "I loved my job and being able to help all of the students and staff at Elmbrook meant the world to me."

In 2015, after 44 years of service to the community, Carol retired from Elmbrook Schools and also became the recipient of a Golden Apple Award recognizing her commitment to the staff and students of Elmbrook. Today, she acts as the Secretary for the Elmbrook Education Foundation and still contributes much of her time to helping the district in their pursuit of excellence.

Throughout September, the district will be featuring alumni stories of individuals who have given back to the district with their service and commitment.

Milwaukee Tool and the Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC) have been named the recipients of the District’s 2024 Excellence in a Community Partnership award! This award will be presented as part of the Engaged in Excellence Awards celebration on Monday, May 6, at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center.

Milwaukee Tool is being recognized as an outstanding community partner for its support of the LAUNCH program and in-kind donations to technical education classrooms across the District. Since partnering with the company in 2017, Milwaukee Tool has contributed monetary donations of over $30,000, product donations of 800 tools totalling more than $174,000, and has served as project mentors for over 150 LAUNCH student projects. Milwaukee Tool annually hosts an Innovation Challenge with LAUNCH, tasking students to design and present innovative solutions to challenges the company presents and students to gain unparalleled learning opportunities through the process.

WCTC has become a key partner in support of the Elmbrook Promise, the District’s goal to provide access to 30 college credits to every high school student before graduation. At the heart of our partnership lies the Excelerate program, where Elmbrook will celebrate its first graduates to complete a high school diploma and an associate's degree while in high school. Additionally, the growing Dual Enrollment Academy has created opportunities for students to start on a career path, earn certifications, and gain industry experience in a supportive high school cohort. These career pathways include certificates in welding, Emergency Medical Technician, IT programming, Firefighting, nursing, dental assistant, and more. Innovative opportunities in the fields of advanced manufacturing and artificial intelligence provide students with hands-on learning experiences for future-ready careers. New course offerings in business management and marketing also offer students deeper insights into the field of work.

Congratulations and thank you to Milwaukee Tool and WCTC for their tremendous partnerships and amazing service to our students, educators, and Elmbrook community.
