On Monday, September 25th, young adult author Katherine Rundell visited Pilgrim Park Middle School to speak with students from around the district. Rundell grew up in Zimbabwe, Brussels, and London, and is currently a Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford. She is the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award-winning author of Rooftoppers, Cartwheeling in Thunderstorms, and her latest release, The Explorer.
Rundell's visit was one of only five appearances in the United States celebrating the release of her latest book. She spoke to students about her adventures travelling, finding inspiration for stories, and she shared tactics for capturing ideas and turning them into stories. Rundell concluded her presentation with an engaging question and answer session, and created a story based on student suggestions. Following the presentation, Rundell signed books for students and staff. This author visit was sponsored by Elmbrook Engaged in Excellence Award recipient for Outstanding Community Partner, Boswell Books, at no cost to the district. This school year, numerous award-winning authors are scheduled to visit the district as a continuation of our joint-initiative to engage students in reading and writing.
