Embracing Change

The District is embracing a series of changes in the coming months that will impact schools and districts across the state. These changes include:

School Report Cards – On October 22nd the Department of Public Instruction is projected to release school report cards for all public schools in Wisconsin. The report cards are based upon student achievement, student growth, attendance and school completion rates. These report cards will help communicate annual progress to our community and the data presented will continue to inform our school and district improvement plans.

Employee Evaluation – In November, the District will begin implementation of the state's teacher evaluation system. This system balances student performance with professional practice and is anticipated to be fully implemented across the state by 2014. Similarly, a Principal evaluation system is also in development both at the district and state levels. A consistent evaluation system benefits both individuals and organizations by establishing clear expectations and opportunities for regular performance feedback.

Employee Compensation – In December, the Elmbrook School Board will begin a process to update the teacher compensation system. Influencing factors include: new state statute, performance indicators, achievement of personal, team, school and district goals, teacher leadership, market analysis, and others. This system will balance the goal of remaining competitive with area districts' compensation packages and available financial resources.

We are committed to providing updates on these important changes to all staff, parents, and community members in order to encourage awareness and understanding. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments.

Mark Hansen
Superintendent
School District of Elmbrook
