Reflections on Today's Tragedy in CT

To the Elmbrook School Community,

First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the families of Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. 

In Elmbrook, we continue to work with the police departments in Brookfield and Elm Grove to regularly assess our safety and security protocols. All of our schools have emergency protocols in place that were created collaboratively with our local law enforcement partners. The emergency protocols cover a number of different scenarios including preparedness for such senseless acts as witnessed most recently at Sandy Hook. Although we cannot release details to these plans for obvious reasons, please know that we have emergency procedures and protocols in place.

During December, our Director of Buildings and Grounds, Scott Miller, and I have met with principals to review their plans and discuss our ongoing safety drill schedules that cover fire, tornado and security lock downs. We take the safety and security of our students very seriously and will continue to review and revise these plans as necessary.

If you have questions, please contact me or the principal of your child's school. The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) has resources to help parents and children work through their emotions in response to National tragedies. School staff will also be prepared to provide additional support to you or your child on Monday.
