RUN FOR THE HILLS: A Huge Success!

This past Sunday, 487 participants gathered at Mitchell Park for the much anticipated Run for the Hills annual PTO fundraiser. Parent volunteers, community members, and our local businesses work collectively to make this event fun and successful. A featured favorite is the mascot race, this year featuring over 23 local mascots who race to the finish as the audience cheers on the Wisconsin Hills Wildcat (or their favorite “other” mascot)! Families from around the local community joined together to enjoy this event, while raising over $8,000 for the WHMS PTO. Special thanks to all who participated and to the cadre of volunteers for the many hours of work on behalf of the school! Go Wildcats!!!!

Artist Visits WHMS

Local artist, Reginald Baylor, visited WHMS recently. He teamed up with the WHMS PTO and the 8th grade Studio Art students to create a mural based on the WHMS school community. All students and staff were invited to join in helping complete this work of art that will adorn the WHMS cafeteria in the very near future. The finished product is sure to be fantastic!

Wisconsin Hills Teachers Receive Awards

We are pleased to announce two WHMS teachers have recently received prestigious awards.

Mrs. Laurie Horne, 7th grade science teacher and House Liaison for the 7 Beta House, has been selected as a 2013 Kohl Fellowship recipient. She was selected for her skill as a leader and agent for positive change, and her superior ability to inspire love of learning. Upon recommendation from the Staff at WHMS, Laurie was selected to submit an application for this award, which is founded on excellence and innovation. Featured in her six page application, are her innovative practices, which sets her above her peers at the middle level throughout the state for this distinguished award. Laurie’s commitment to the profession and her students is exemplary and we are incredibly proud of her and this esteemed honor! Congratulation to Laurie!

Mrs. Jean Woolridge, 8th grade special educator and Co-department Chair for the Special Education Department, has been selected as the 2013 Brookfield Jaycees Outstanding Educator. Jean was nominated as a result of her distinguished commitment to the community for her work with the Food for the Hungry partnership between Brownberry Ovens and our students. Every week (rain, snow, or shine) Jean and her team take 5-10 kids over to Brownberry Ovens to assist Food for the Hungry as they load thousands of loaves of day-old bread into volunteer vehicles that deliver this bread to over 1500 senior centers, food pantries, schools, abuse centers, veterans, church food pantries, low income child centers, rescue missions, etc. across a three-state area. In a community when so many are blessed, it is nice to be able to engage our students in such a worthy cause. Most importantly, the kids participating in this service make connections and contributions to our community, the other volunteers, and have the opportunity to forge friendships and partnerships that will last a lifetime. Congratulations to Jean!
