Coaches Rose and Donkersgoed Both Named NFHS Wisconsin Swim & Dive Coaches of the Year

After a year sweeping the team state championships in swimming and diving, Elmbrook coaches Mike Rose and Van Donkersgoed have been named Wisconsin’s Swim Coaches of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS)!

Mike Rose is the Brookfield East Girls Swimming and Diving Head Coach that led his team to a three-peat state championship this past season. Van Donkersgoed is the Head Coach of the Brookfield Barracudas, a combined Brookfield Central-East Boys swim and dive team that took home the gold this past season, marking a historic first for a combined team. Rose was named the 22-23 NFHS Coaches Association Girls Swim & Dive Coach of the Year for Wisconsin, and Donkersgoed was named the 22-23 NFHS Coaches Association Boys Swim & Dive Coach of the Year for Wisconsin.

Annually, the NFHS identifies and recognizes a coach from each state for significant achievement in their respective sport. State-level recipients are then considered for Sectional and then National recognition, which only 21 coaches from across the country receive. Award recipients are selected based on a variety of criteria including their coaching record, background, coaching honors, and involvement in community and school organizations. Rose and Donkersgoed are now able to advance to sectional coaches of the year.

For Rose, this is the second time he has received this honor after having previously been named the NFHS National Girls Swimming Coach of the Year in 2021.

Congratulations to Coaches Rose and Donkersgoed and best of luck as they are considered for Sectional and then National recognition!
