The Brookfield Central Lancer family is deeply saddened to share that teacher, coach, mentor and friend, Dave Steinbach, passed away on January 17, 2022. He began his 55-year Elmbrook coaching career in 1965, and his 38-year tennis coaching career at Brookfield Central in 1982. As a physical education teacher and coach of gymnastics, basketball, and tennis, Coach Steinbach exemplified everything that is positive about involvement in high school sports. He will be missed.
The family is planning a celebration of his life for the spring or summer to be held at the courts named in his honor.

I could not have ever had a better mentor in coaching and teaching than Coach Steinbach. I am absolutely heartbroken today. I am happy he can reunite with his wife in Heaven and I will spend the rest of my coaching days doing my best to carry on his legacy. https://t.co/HYKg142GJ5

I learned this morning my former high school tennis coach passed away. 😢 Such sad news. He inspired so many lives. He is the winningest high school tennis coach in WI history with more than 500 boys and girls wins. He will be missed. 🙏 https://t.co/8onlGJpiQ9

The @wiaawi allowed a few Fall sports teams to start practicing today, including girls tennis. But longtime @bclancerstennis head coach Dave Steinbach wasn't there for the first time in decades because he's now retired.
Here's a clip from my story with him tonight. @BCHS_SDE pic.twitter.com/5SXvkrRCZl
