Lauren ConlinBrookfield Central Class of 2010

Lauren Conlin is a proud Brookfield Central alum and Special Education teacher at Brookfield East.

Lauren's education began at Brookfield Elementary before attending Wisconsin Hills and Brookfield Central. At Central, she was involved in a number of groups including Key Club, SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions), Junior Class President, Student Council Executive Club, National Honor Society, and the Swim Team. "My teachers were, hands down, the best part of my Elmbrook education," reflected Conlin. "They went above and beyond to support, challenge, and inspire me." Lauren highlighted her appreciation for Spanish teachers Joslyn Hegelmeyer and Sandra Aslakson, and Student Council advisors Nita Hodgson and Danna Bowe for their teaching, support and friendship throughout her time at Elmbrook.

Lauren graduated from Central in 2010 and continued her education at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. While at UW, she became involved in the Student Wisconsin Education Association, as well as volunteering and tutoring at a variety of schools throughout the Madison area. Conlin graduated from UW in 2014 with a degree in Special Education.

Later that Fall, Lauren accepted a position at Brookfield East High School as a Special Education teacher. For the past two years, Lauren has co-taught Algebra and Geometry, and is now on the 'Co-Plan to Co-Serve' team for Geometry. "I love spending each day forming relationships with my students and my amazing colleagues," said Conlin. "The District's focus on continued learning is powerful and has allowed me to engage in numerous professional development opportunities."

Lauren is thankful for the supportive administration at East and their encouragement of trying new methods to further student learning and engagement. "I became a teacher because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of my students just as my teachers did in my life," stated Conlin, "and I feel very blessed to be able to work in the District that I grew up in."

This Fall, the district featured alumni stories of individuals who have given back to the district with their service and commitment. You can read more of these stories here.
