Brookfield Central Junior, Anel Robinson, was one of 200 high school students chosen from around the world to attend the Global Youth Institute, a branch of the World Food Prize.

This past summer, Robinson attended the Alabama Youth Institute agricultural camp at Tuskegee University where she wrote an essay for The World Food Prize. Her essay centered on malnutrition in Ghana and she presented it as a three-minute speech to judges at the state level. Anel's speech was then selected as one of just 200 student speeches from around the globe and she was invited to attend the Global Youth Institute in Des Moines this October, a three-day event hosted by The World Food Prize Foundation. At the event, Anel was able to participate in round table discussions with her peers, global leaders, Nobel Prize Winners, and agricultural experts.

"I chose Ghana for my essay because my family is from an Ewe village near Ghana's capital, Accra," said Anel. "My favorite part of the program was getting the opportunity to listen to the President of the Democractic Republic of Congo talk about their work to increase food security in his country."

Created in 1986, The World Food Prize is an international honor recognizing the achievements of individuals who have advanced human development by improving the quality, quantity, and availability of food in the world. In addition to Youth Institutes, the organization also provides internship, mentorship and fellowship opportunities for students focused on building skills in research and nonprofit work to reduce hunger and poverty and promote development across the globe.
