Brookfield East Boys Tennis Wins Second Consecutive State Championship

On Saturday, June 11 in Madison, the #1 seeded Brookfield East Boys Tennis Team finished off another amazing season by defeating Notre Dame (7-0), Marquette (4-3) and Neenah (7-0), bringing home the WIAA Division 1 Team Title for the second straight year! The team finished the season with an impressive 26-3 record, following last year’s undefeated season.

"I am so unbelievably proud of this team," said Coach Linda Lied. "They remained committed to our goals and gave their best every day. I will miss our seniors and I know that they will continue to make a huge impact on the sport going forward.”

East’s team success was previewed the week before at the Individual and Doubles state competition. Last year’s doubles state champions, seniors Henry Irwin and Reed Cullen, medaled again, this time earning third place. Additionally, sophomore Oscar Corwin placed sixth in individuals, the doubles team of Owen Kendler & Michael Francken also placed sixth, and junior Sam Klein advanced to the second round of the singles competition.

Brookfield East had more podium finishers than any other team at the state meet this year, and for the second year in a row, at least two of the six doubles podium finishers were Spartan teams! Congratulations to all the athletes and Coach Lied on another phenomenal season!
