Mike SteinerBrookfield East Head Boys Track & Field coach Mike Steiner has retired from his position after 17 seasons. "I want to thank Brookfield East for the opportunity they gave me back in 2004. It has been an incredible ride and certainly has helped me grow as both a coach and as a leader. We are proud of our accomplishments but more importantly the tremendous impact I know our staff has had on student-athletes. We created great memories and left a footprint on our school that will last forever. The goal was always to provide a great experience for kids and I think we achieved that. Thank you to all the athletes who entrusted us with their development, the parents for their unwavering support, the staff who have given everything possible to the kids, school and program and to our administration for being 100% committed to providing a quality experience for our student-athletes. A special thanks to my wife Terry for her patience and support during this wonderful journey" said Steiner.

"I would like to thank Coach Steiner for all he has done for student-athletes in the track and field program," said Athletic Director Ben Westphal. "Coach Steiner not only has had incredible success at the conference, regional and state level, but he has also stressed high character values, held student-athletes accountable to themselves and their teammates, and the coaches and athletes of his program have enhanced the culture of Brookfield East High School throughout his time as head coach. Boys Track & Field at BEHS has grown to record participation numbers of student-athletes and it is a model program in the state of Wisconsin."

Throughout his years as head coach, Coach Steiner's teams have won 28 Greater Metro Conference championships, including 11 indoor titles, 9 relay championships, and 8 conference outdoor titles. In WIAA postseason competition, they earned 7 sectional titles and Steiner's teams were consistently well-represented at the WIAA State Track & Field meet, including an impressive run of four Division 1 WIAA State Championships in six years (2011, 2012, 2013, 2016). Steiner's Spartans currently hold two state records (1600 meter relay and pole vault) and several of his athletes have gone on to compete at the college level across the nation. Following the 2013 season, after the Spartans were crowned state champions for the third year in a row, Coach Steiner was selected as the Gill National High School Track & Field Coach of the Year.
