Burleigh Elementary’s Associate Principal, Mekenna Ellis, has been tapped to fill a new Early Literacy Coordinator position, focused on closing the early literacy gap and improving future academic achievement for all students.
Ellis has been the Associate Principal at Burleigh Elementary for the past four years. She has also recently coordinated and chaired Elmbrook’s Literary Urgency Team, created to address learning gaps in our youngest students due to the pandemic.
“Mekenna Ellis comes to her new position in the District with a multitude of leadership experiences and a proven track record of collaboration with families and staff to create individualized literacy learning plans to best meet students' needs,” said Emily Greiber, Director of Elementary Education. “Her work with educators and open communication with our students and their families has made her a model leader in Elmbrook and we are excited for her to take on this initiative.”
Mekenna will begin in her new role in July 2022.
