Mekenna EllisOn Tuesday, April 17, the School District of Elmbrook's Board of Education approved Mekenna Ellis as Associate Principal of Burleigh Elementary School. Mrs. Ellis is currently a Reading Specialist and Literacy Coach for the Wauwatosa School District, a position she has held since 2012.

"Mekenna Ellis comes to Burleigh with a wide range of transformational leadership experiences and collaborative skills to meet the needs of our students," said Burleigh Principal Christian Pleister. "Mrs. Ellis is highly regarded in our region for her work with teachers that ensures continuous leadership development and open communication with students and families."

"I am honored to have been selected as the Associate Principal of Burleigh Elementary," said Mrs. Ellis. "I look forward to being a part of Burleigh's leadership team and serving the students, staff, and families of this great school."

Prior to her current role, Mrs. Ellis held positions as a first and second grade teacher at Trevor-Wilmot Grade School from 2007 to 2012. Mekenna earned her Bachelor of Science in Middle Childhood through Early Adolescence from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse (2006), her Master of Science in Reading from Concordia University (2010), and her Master of Science in Educational Leadership from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee (2014).

Mrs. Ellis replaces Mrs. Kitty Janas, who is retiring from her role after 24 years in the School District of Elmbrook. Ellis will begin her role as Burleigh Associate Principal in July, 2018.
