Human Growth & Development Advisory Committee

The School District of Elmbrook is committed to a Curriculum Review Cycle updated to insure relevant, rigorous and aligned curriculum and instruction in every classroom in our district.

The revised Human Growth and Development Curriculum supported by the Human Growth and Development Advisory Committee was approved by the Board of Education on September 25, 2018. The district will begin to draft lesson plans and research resources. Once these are drafted to align with the approved curriculum, the recommendations will be shared for community and advisory committee input in Winter 2019 before it goes to the Board of Education for approval in spring 2019.

Purpose

HG&D Phase 2: Lesson Plans and Resources

Per Board Policy 6142.3 a material and lesson review will be conducted at each grade level by district staff in order to find a match between district outcomes and lessons used to teach the outcomes. Materials and/or lessons will be recommended and/or written. Multiple review sessions will be scheduled to gather input from parents, committee members and members of the Board. Input will be collected and shared with the Board.

Any changes in new materials related to current outcomes must be approved by the Board on or before January 15th for second semester and August 1st for first semester. New materials can be suggested by following the procedures and timeline for the materials review process.

After approval, lessons will be available for review at each school, the public libraries, and the central office. Materials will be available for review at the schools and the central office. Lessons will be posted on the website unless protected by copyright.

Initial Request for Volunteers

District Seeks Volunteers for the Human Growth & Development Advisory Committee
The School District of Elmbrook is committed to a Curriculum Review Cycle updated to insure relevant, rigorous and aligned curriculum and instruction in every classroom in our district. The District is preparing to review the Human Growth and Development (HG&D) Curriculum during this school year (2017-18) and is seeking Other Resident Community Member volunteers to serve on the HG&D Advisory Committee. Per School of Elmbrook Board Policy 6142.3 the Advisory Committee shall have “Other Residents (3), selected randomly from applications recruited through local media who may include residents without children attending a district school.”

The work of the committee is set to begin during the Fall of 2017, pending Board approval. The main focus of the committee’s work is to review the district’s current, K-12 human growth and development learning objectives and recommend revisions (additions, deletions, combinations) that will promote the optimal health and well-being of our students.

Commitment of Service:
• Attend open meetings: Nov 7, 2017; Dec 12, 2017; and February 13, 2018 from 5:00-6:30pm
• Some outside of committee time to read, review, prepare for agenda topics
• Willing to commit to at least one year of membership or until the time the Board hears and approves the committee’s final recommendations
