Transportation

Bus routes are developed in adherence to Elmbrook School Board Practice Statement 3541.1, which guides the fair and impartial selection of bus stops. Our goal is to provide transportation to the greatest number of eligible students with the fewest stops within the required timeframe, ensuring time and cost efficiency for the district. To optimize effectiveness and adapt to changes in student population, the district utilizes corner bus stops. If you're concerned about your child's safety, we encourage you to accompany them to the bus stop.

A special effort will be made to place pickup and dropoff bus stops in view of the kindergarten student’s home.

According to Board Practice Statement 3541.1, the maximum walking distance for students to and from regular bus stops are as follows:

Grades kindergarten through 5:  1/8 mile

Grades 6 through 8: 1/4 mile

Grades 9 through 12: 3/8 mile

The distance is measured from the middle of the driveway to the location of the bus stop.

For safety reasons buses will not be routed into dead-end streets or cul-de-sacs, therefore the above maximum walking distances do not apply to students living on those types of streets.

Your child can be picked up and/or dropped off at another location on a daily basis that is located within their school’s attendance boundary. Please notify us by completing a Route Change Request/Concern form.

During annual online registration you will have the opportunity to request a bus for the upcoming school year.  For requests outside of this period please submit a Route Change Request/Concern form.  Students can be added to a bus route anytime during the school year.

In order to have efficient bus routes it’s helpful for us to know if your child no longer requires a bus assignment.  Please notify us by completing a Route Change Request/Concern form.  If at any time your child will need to be added back to the bus route please complete the same request form.

To request an email for the Stopfinder App, contact GoRite Way at 414-249-5048 for authorization.  Authorized guardians, middle schoolers and high schoolers can get the app. After the app has been activated, users can invite others to get the app, such as grandparents or other caregivers.

Students are advised to be at their corner stop at least five minutes prior to their scheduled pick-up time.

Parents are responsible for their children until they board the bus before school and once the bus has delivered them to the designated drop-off location at the end of the day.

Please contact the School District of Elmbrook Central Administrative Office at 262-781-3030, ext 11117 and provide them with your new address.  The student database will be updated, and Go Riteway will be notified to update your student’s bus route. 

• Take seat immediately upon boarding the bus
• Move over to allow another student to sit in the seat with them
• Stay in their seat - never stand or switch seats while the bus is in motion
• Keep aisle clear
• Talk quietly
• No eating or drinking on the bus
• Never put head, arms or objects out the window
• Always obey instructions provided by the bus driver
• Never push or shove when exiting the bus

For safety reasons children should avoid eating and drinking while on the bus.  This is necessary to prevent choking and concerns related to food allergies.  

Students are expected to ride their assigned bus. Due to limited space on buses, students are not allowed to ride home on a friend's bus.

Please contact Go Riteway at 414-249-5048 and provide a description of the item, along with the bus route number and approximate time the item was left behind.  Items found by the bus drivers are typically returned the next day during their route.
