DIXON ELEMENTARY PTO Unapproved Minutes

1.  Call to Order  at   6:33pm  Carey Drees/Sara Monty 

 

2.  Review and Approval of January 2024 Minutes   Katrina Hergott

3.  Principal Report Luke Sadowski 

KG 100 day parade in the dark today with the power outage.  Sara Monty stepped in do be special ed teacher.  No screaming or crying by any of the kids, everyone was impressed but not surprised.  Kids were all very calm, practice a lot of safety things at school so they were well prepared.  Even 4k kids did well altogether in the library.  4th grade pretending they were in 1800s to use quills and ink, 5th grade doing order of operations on whiteboard, etc.  Thanks to PTO for valentine day treats.  No school tues Feb 20th or April 2nd due to voting.

 

4. Treasurer Report Brian Kawa

P&L—Jan was a quiet month.  Box tops brought in $233.  Scan your grocery store receipts.  $490 gift card deposit.  Quickbooks hiccup--Nutcracker.  $210 for Parents Night Out.  Commission check $115 for spirit wear.  Over $3000 for staff recognition. Savings 20 cents interest .  Jan/feb/march are big expense months.  Carnival, book fair help bring in money later in the school year.

 

Old Business             

                5. Parents Night Out       Laura Swenson/Kelly Villalobos 

Really good turnout, wasn’t sure how much it would cost.  Talking about next event.  Will be a survey to see what parents want next time.  Throw out your good ideas.

 

       6. Battle of the Books            Kristin Parulski/Christina Potts 

Went well.  55 kids between 4th and 5th grade; was more than last year.  Winning team next week for state battle.  Thanks for the pto donation for pizza party.  Got kids excited for reading.  Thanks to parent volunteers.

 

                New Business

                  7. Book Fair      Sara Monty 

Next week Friday it starts.  Fliers will maybe come home tomorrow.  Theme is frogs.  It will be in the library again and is the same size as the fall book fair.  Open during science fair.  Kids will come during library time during school.  Next year may bump back to March.  Get caught reading starts this week.  Tuesday will set up so if you want to help, please reach out to Sara Monty. 

 

        8. Leap Day                Sara Monty 

1400 mini frogs will be hidden on the 28th.  Every child will get a frog on the 29th.  Please keep this a secret from your kids!!!  Want it to be surprise for them.  Do Not Tell Them!

 

        9.High Interest Day                Sara Monty 

May 3rd.  Need new chair and co-chair.  Find a friend and please take it over!  Lots of new stuff this year. Have hula dancers, bees, giant tortoise, forensic scientist, taylor swift bracelet making. Need lots of volunteers.  Milwaukee flyers for the morning for the assembly. 

 

        10. Gallery Night     Brittany Muriello  

March 14th.  Sign up sheets go out 2 weeks ahead to help put up displays.  Theme is GLOW.  Glow rave in LGI.  Sensory time.  Wear clean clothes since there will be blacklights. 😊

 

        11. Empty Bowls     Erica Wilkinson/Mary Schubert

Need daytime point person to help coordinate volunteers, really just noon-4 the day of, not a big commitment.  Same night as gallery night.  March 14th

 

        12. Dining Out Rewards       Jen Koch

$143.61 Scratch dine out.  Dine out at lou malnatis, all day Feb 20th; mention Dixon or use the code GPfun24 for mobile or online order—will get 20% back.  Trying to have something every month, will put on FB page and Julie’s email blast. 

 

        13. Elmbrook Parent Network update           Carey Drees 

The Elmbrook Parent Network plans to publish information about the candidates running for the two school board seats up for election on April 2.  Elmbrook community members are encouraged to submit questions for the candidates to the Parent Network Candidate Survey at elmbrookelection.org.  Questions must be submitted by Sun, Feb 25. The plan is for the Parent Network to post candidate responses on Friday, March 8th on an independent website. 

Parent Network will be hosting a free program for parents on Feb. 27, the title is Helping Grade Schoolers Manage Social Situations in Healthy Ways with Dr. Matthew Jandrisevits The program will be held from 7-8:30pm at the Brookfield East Excellence Center.  More info is available on the Elmbrook Parent Network website. 

 

14. Elmbrook Education Foundation update        Carey Drees

The EEF just finished up collecting submissions for their Thank you Thursday initiaitve to thank our Elmbrook Staff Members.  They received over 2,000 nominations across the district - and for the next few weeks 10 winners will be chosen at random each Thursday to win a $25 gift card to the Corners of Brookfield.  As part of Thank you Thursday, the EEF will also be delivering Pizza from Grimaldi's to all the Dixon staff during the first week of March. 

 The EEF is holding their 2nd annual Explore STEAM event for families on Wednesday, Feb, 28 from 4:30-7pm in the Brookfield Central Gym.  Elmbrook robotics teams will be there for demonstrations and there will be 30 booths with hands-on science activities for kids.  The event is sold out but you can contact Carey Drees and she can probably squeeze you in :) Tickets are $5 for kids ages 4-13 and free for adults and all money raised is going towards the EEF's Robotics and Automation initiative.     

 

15. Kids heart challenge:  update from Megan Repsa: kids participating all week with jump rope skills with Mr. Johnson.  Ends tomorrow.  142 students registered.  23 students finished finns challenge.  CPR hands only 43 families completed.  $10161 raised for American Heart Association.

 

16.  Raffle needs new co-chair.  Please help Shyla as Katrina will be gone.
