Terry Little and Dr. Siegenthaler with Civic Music Award

Terry Little, 4th and 5th Grade Band Teacher at Dixon and Tonawanda Elementary, recently accepted the opportunity to present at the world-renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston. Her proposal was accepted out of a large number of proposals as part of the ABLE (Arts Better the Lives of Everyone) Assembly.

"Terry is an innovative teacher and her belief in inclusion allows all students to have a role in band," said Dixon Principal, Dr. Jeanne Siegenthaler. "We are proud that her exceptional work will be highlighted on a national stage."

Her session entitled Personalized Learning and Students on the Autism Spectrum: Cases from the Instrumental Music Classroom will be presented at the assembly on Saturday, April 7. The ABLE Assembly is a professional development opportunity in the field of arts education and special needs that brings together educators, artists, researchers, policymakers, school administrators, program administrators, and students to share experiences, best practices, explore new research, and learn from each other.

"I have always believed that instrumental music is valuable and appropriate for learners at all levels," stated Terry. "I'm thrilled to be able to share my students' successes, and take time to advance my own learning from professionals around the nation."

Little was also the recent recipient of the Civic Music Association of Milwaukee's Excellence in Instrumental Music Teaching award. Little was recognized for this achievement at a Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra performance on March 10. Congratulations to Terry on her recent achievements!
