SCN - Steps to Take After Board Approval

All individuals must sign the board approval form through eSign electronic signature service. The email will come from Elmbrook School District and have a subject of “Please review or sign the document(s)”. The form must be signed by a parent and a student. The document is sent to the signer by email. When all individuals have signed the form, you should download and save the document. Students will get an email stating that the form has been executed. Students should consider creating a folder for all their paperwork for their own records. The school district will send the form directly to the admission office on your behalf. 

Did you forget what courses you requested? 

You can find your paperwork by searching your email for "notifications@foxitsign.com"
You will see what requests have been fully executed and what requests still need to be signed by you, a parent, or a counselor. Look in the email that you used when completing the online form.

WCTC EXCELERATE STUDENTS:  Apply directly to WCTC and to the program you plan on enrolling in.
Check your email regularly to ensure you are completing all the admission requirements. Particular programs also have deadlines for applications.

• Your signed request form will be sent to WCTC on your behalf to
  Nicole Luzich, Dual Credit Specialist at WCTC (NLuzich@wctc.edu) 
   
• Download your transcripts from Infinite Campus. WCTC no longer requires official transcripts. Send your transcripts to Ms. Luzich at WCTC. If your ACT scores are needed for admission to WCTC, please contact your student services secretary:
  Mrs. Kafkas at BEHS (kafkasd@elmbrookschools.org)
  Ms. Ferschl at BCHS (ferschln@elmbrookschools.org)
  Be sure to let them know you are a Start College Now student.
  Any AP course scores needed can be sent by your counselor. 
   
• Complete the application process. Students may be required to provide prerequisite course information such as AP scores or take a placement test. Placement tests will need to be scheduled by students with WCTC. 

MATC STUDENTS:  Students applying to MATC should see the directions on THIS SITE.

• EXCELERATE students:  The sooner you get admitted, the sooner you can register for classes.  You will want to complete this process ASAP to get the sections you need to fit into your high school schedule.

• Students can only enroll in courses that have been board-approved for the semester they are approved. If scheduling doesn’t work out for the semester you requested you will need to resubmit a request for the following semester.

• Once enrolled, students must comply with the college’s policies. This includes drop deadlines. Remember, high school students are last on the priority list for registration. Enrolling just weeks or in some cases days before the course begins is not uncommon. Try to remain flexible and understand that this entire process may not go through until August (for Fall courses) or late December (for Spring courses). 

• If you receive a bill, call the registrar’s office of the college/university. You may not be registered as a high school student at the college. You can also send it to Mrs. Cadkin (cadkinn@elmbrookschools.org). 

• Inform your counselor of final enrollment information, including:
  • Name of the course
  • Course Number
  • College name
  • Blocks and Terms that the course should be placed. (If the course is outside of school hours it should still be noted on your schedule)
  • Indicate whether you want to take the course for high school and college credit. 

• You are responsible for getting a transcript to report the final grade to the student services office. 

Determine the textbook(s) needed for your course(s) by visiting the college bookstore or searching the college's online bookstore.  This will allow you to search for the appropriate textbook for your specific course section.  Depending on who your professor is, the textbook you need may be different from another student taking the same course with a different instructor.

• Reach out to Mrs. Cadkin (cadkinn@elmbrookschools.org) with questions or to order your textbooks at least three weeks prior to the start date of your course(s). 

• Learn how to log in to the college email system and access course materials. Familiarize yourself with the Learning Management System. Learn what services are available at your college such as the library or writing center. 

• If you have any accommodations, see the student services department at the college.

• Read the Syllabus! Learn how to reach out to your professor during office hours. Discover who to reach at the college if you have technical difficulties. If the course is online, make sure to test all your technology before the class begins. 

• Consider scheduling a tour before your course begins. Walk the campus and determine where your class is located and where you will park before the course begins.

• Keep up with due dates. Late work is generally not accepted in college. Do not procrastinate on projects or the end of the semester will be very challenging. 

• Attend class and ask questions or attend office hours.

• If you are having trouble in a course, reach out immediately to your instructor for help.

• If student fails the course or withdraws/drops, District requires the student/family to pay.

After you have completed your college course(s), obtain a copy of your college transcript and provide it to your student services office to be included on your high school transcript.
