Elmbrook Schools proudly hosted a landmark event on November 21, marking a significant milestone in the field of education and workforce development. The Teacher Apprentice Signing Event celebrated the first-ever cohort of Wisconsin Teacher Apprentices from around the area, including Elmbrook's very own, Matthew Jacobson, the state's pioneering teacher apprentice. The roundtable discussion included school, state and federal officials such as Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, Amy Pechacek (Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Secretary - DWD), David Polk (DWD), Deputy Administrator Megan Baird (US Department of Labor), and Nikki Churchwell (US Department of Education), among others.
The School District of Elmbrook "Significantly Exceeds Expectations," according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) who released district and school report cards this week. The District's rating score of 85.1 is the third highest of 4K-12th grade districts in the state with a student population of over 1,000, based on 2023-24 school year data.
Pilgrim Park and Wisconsin Hills hosted best-selling authors Ruta Sepetys, Steve Sheinkin, Marissa Meyer, and Joanne Levy throughout October. Both events were made possible through a partnership with our local business partner, Boswell Book Company.
Brookfield East’s Athletics Manager, Cheryl Waffenschmidt, recently received the Gregory A. Smith Distinguished Service Award for District 7 from the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association! Cheryl has served the student-athletes and coaches of Brookfield East and Elmbrook for nearly 20 years, including coordinating all matters of athletics such as transportation, athletic registrations, creating schedules, paying officials, reserving facilities, and so much more.
The Association of Wisconsin School Administrators (AWSA) has named Elizabeth “Liz” Nelson as its 2024 Wisconsin Middle School Associate Principal of the Year.

On October 26, the Spartan Girls marked their first State Team Championship win, making their ninth State Tournament appearance a historic one at The Nielsen Tennis Center in Madison. The second-seeded team triumphed over top-rated Arrowhead, the two-time defending Division 1 champions.
Brookfield Central Junior Aidan Liu recently qualified for the prestigious 1st and 2nd Junior World Cups for short track speed skating! Liu will be heading to Italy, where he’ll compete in November, representing both Elmbrook and the United States in these high-stakes events.

On October 15, Brookfield East Junior Payton Haugen took second in the WIAA Girls Golf Championships for the second year in a row, finishing with a score of six (-6) under par. Haugen tied for first and forced a playoff hole against Beaver Dam / Wayland Academy’s golfer to become one of only three student-athletes in WIAA history to score a record 138 strokes through 36 holes.

Author Cole Nussbaumer Knaflic visited Burleigh Elementary on Thursday, October 10, to speak to 170 third graders. Her visit was in promotion of her new children’s book Daphne Draws Data, and included a graph-drawing activity with high school students from Elmbrook’s LAUNCH Future Teachers strand. Cole’s book uses fun, colorful adventures with Daphne the Dragon to show young learners how data can be visualized to solve problems.
On Thursday, October 3, Elmbrook Director of Technology Dan Scott participated in a K-12 Cybersecurity roundtable with National Cyber Director Harry Coker Jr. and State Superintendent Jill Underly, among others. The roundtable discussion centered around the importance of being proactive in protecting school district infrastructure from cyber threats.

Best-selling and award-winning author Loren Long visited Brookfield Elementary on Wednesday, October 2, to speak with over 350 students and staff from Brookfield Elementary School. His visit celebrated the release of his latest children’s book, The Yellow Bus, which explores themes of joy, purpose, and companionship told through the life of a school bus.

For the sixth consecutive year and eighth year overall, the School District of Elmbrook is ranked the #1 Wisconsin Public School District by Niche.com. The Niche rankings consider academic data and Niche participant survey data about school and student life. Elmbrook was previously named the #1 District in Wisconsin by Niche in 2016, 2017, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. Additionally, Niche ranked Elmbrook as #50 nationally for Best School Districts across the country.
Student leaders from the Brookfield Central and Brookfield East High School Hope Squads recently reflected on the important work that they do through their peer-to-peer suicide prevention program.
The School District of Elmbrook seeks parents and staff members interested in participating on a School Start Time Committee, charged with exploring options that better align research on academic performance with school start times. The Committee will meet monthly from November to March, and will produce one or more recommendations to the Board of Education by March 18, 2025.
