Elmbrook is proud to recognize the great work of student-artists from Brookfield Central and Brookfield East High Schools that have been honored by the 2024 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards program is the nation's longest-running, largest, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. In 2022 alone, students across the United States and Canada entered more than 260,000 original works across 28 different categories.
The co-Brookfield Central / Brookfield East boys swim team, the Brookfield Barracudas, took home the Division 1 gold in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay at the WIAA State Swim and Dive Meet this month! The team consisted of Tom Bergin (Central), Caleb Smith (East), Luke Thomas (East), and Logan Loppnow (Central) with a time of 1:25.32. Overall the team placed fourth overall with 138 points.
Brookfield East Senior, Eiman Mir, has been selected as the 2024 Wisconsin Journalist of the Year by the Wisconsin Journalism Education Association! She was selected amongst her peers across the state for her high-quality publication leadership, dedication to keeping students informed, and her outreach to community and commitment to diversity.
The Wisconsin Association of School Councils (WASC) has selected Pilgrim Park Middle School as the 2023-24 JAM Region IV Spirit of Excellence Award Winner! PPMS and other winning schools will be recognized with an on-court awards ceremony by the Milwaukee Bucks at their home game on March 4, and at an awards presentation at the WASC State Conference on April 7.
International Academic Competitions (IAC) hosted Wisconsin Regional competitions for History Bee, Geography Bee and Science Bee at Brookfield Central High School on January 27. Several Students from Elmbrook Schools placed and will advance in competitions.
When Brookfield Central (BC) Senior Eric Perrin (‘24) graduates in June, he’ll already have an associate's degree to his name and 72 college credits under his belt!

Laura Baritt is the Assistant Director for Food & Nutrition for Elmbrook Schools and helps coordinate kitchen staffing, plan school menus, and manage the hydroponic lettuce initiative. Growing up, Baritt enjoyed racing in a Junior Dragster!

Brookfield East has earned the College Board AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award for achieving high female representation in AP Computer Science A (CSA).

Officer Tony Kader is the (SRO) at Brookfield Central High School. Through his work, he provides BC with an extra sense of security throughout the school day and builds positive relationships between students and law enforcement. Kader began as Central’s SRO in January 2020, and the program has been so successful it’s since expanded to include both Elmbrook middle schools. Kader loves the high-spirited professionals he works with and the opportunities to speak to and mentor students daily.
On Thursday, January 17th, 21 students from all five Elmbrook elementary schools and both middle schools participated in the District Spelling Bee.
Dr. Hansen provides this month’s updates and celebrations from the brand-new Robotics & Automation Space at Brookfield East High School. And he even tries his hand at driving a robot!
When Renae Higgins (Brookfield Central ‘23) began her college education in the Fall of 2023, she may have been new to her campus but she was just two credits shy of Junior status at UW-Milwaukee. By taking advantage of the Elmbrook Promise, which strives to make at least 30 college credits available to every Elmbrook student before graduation, Renae had a total of 54 credits toward her degree, which will vastly speed up her path to a degree in Art Education.

Civic Music MKE has announced its 2024 Music Educator Awards. Scott Malcom (General Music & Choir Teacher at Brookfield Elementary) has been named Music Teacher of the Year, and Annie Schmidt (Orchestra Teacher at Brookfield & Burleigh Elementary Schools) has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence in Instrumental Music Instruction.
Dr. Mark Hansen officially received the 2024 Wisconsin Superintendent of the Year Award on Wednesday, January 17 at the State Education Convention held in Milwaukee by the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB). As part of his award, Dr. Hansen gave the keynote luncheon presentation on Thursday to hundreds of attendees from across the state, including colleagues, friends, and family.

Officer Stephanie Zartner has been the School Resource Officer (SRO) at Brookfield East High School since 2020. Zartner is most proud of her resiliency and how she’s been able to pass those traits on to her own children, and would love to someday meet inspirational author Brené Brown.

The Elmbrook Promise is the District’s commitment to offering students the opportunity to access 30 college credits before graduation.
Elmbrook hosted author Lisa Yee and author/illustrator Dan Santat at Brookfield Elementary on Wednesday, January 10 as they presented to a full library. They visited in promotion of their new book The Misfits which was just released on January 2. Yee is a Newbery Honor Winner and Santat is a 2023 National Book Award Winner for Young People’s Literature and 2015 Caldecott Medal Winner! Their engaging and hilarious presentation centered around how they started in their professions, how to draw and write creatively, and their long-time collaboration efforts.
This past December, a total of 445 purses, bags and backpacks were delivered to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission’s Joy House for the annual Purse Project drive on behalf of those in need in the Milwaukee area this winter. The bags were stuffed with blankets, books, warm clothing, health and beauty essentials, and other valuable items by the high school Key Clubs to give to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Milwaukee. The bags and supplies were generously donated by Elmbrook staff, students, and community members at all schools throughout the last few months.
