Brookfield Central is officially back on top! We are thrilled to announce that the BC Mock Trial Team has captured their 2nd State Championship title. In a gripping final round held this past Sunday, March 8, at the Wisconsin State Capitol, our students delivered a masterclass in legal advocacy to secure the victory over an incredibly talented Madison West High School team.
This win brings the team’s record to an impressive 15-3, marking the perfect end to a grueling seven-month season. Our champions—Rageshri Barad, Lucia Brewer, Wyatt Brom, Julia Christian, Tess Pierce, and Josie Seiler—spent countless late nights and weekends refining their opening statements, perfecting cross-examinations, and mastering the complex nuances of the law.
"It is impossible to put into words the commitment these students had this season. They poured their hearts into every argument and practiced as one cohesive unit, constantly adjusting as the season progressed. To see their years of dedication and sacrifice rewarded with a state championship is one of the highest honors of my career." — Jon Vogt, Faculty Advisor
"There is no way for me to fully put into words how proud I am of everything this team accomplished this season. Beyond our success in the courtroom, it was incredibly rewarding to be part of a team that prioritized lifting each other up. From team huddles to secret fist bumps during trials, I truly couldn’t imagine a better group of people to continue this journey with!"-Lucia Brewer, Team Member
"To win a State title takes more than talent; it takes a total team effort and relentless determination. I am incredibly proud of these students for their hard work and their historic victory." — Brett Gruetzmacher, Proud Principal
This victory was a community effort. We extend our sincere thanks to Faculty Advisor Jon Vogt for his leadership, and to our Legal Advisors, Adam Schleis and Morgan Risseeuw, for sharing their professional expertise to help our students achieve this competitive edge. The "Gavel Games" aren't over yet! By securing the state title, BC Mock Trial has earned the honor of representing Wisconsin at the National Tournament this May.
Since 1983, the Wisconsin High School Mock Trial Program has provided students with a hands-on look at the legal system. By arguing cases before real attorneys and judges, students develop critical skills in:
- Case Analysis: Building a cohesive narrative from complex facts.
- Public Speaking: Presenting with confidence as witnesses or counsel.
- Critical Thinking: Adapting arguments in real-time during live proceedings.
Please join us in congratulating our champions and wishing our Lancers the best of luck as they head to Nationals!
