The closure of a segment of Pilgrim Road (CTH YY) near Dixon Elementary in 2026 is for a long-scheduled Underwood Creek Structure replacement project by Waukesha County. More information about the closure can be found on the County website.

Project Timeline

  • Closure Start: Early January 2026.

  • Closure Location: Pilgrim Road from Fieldstone Drive to Esser Court (across from Wirth Park entrance). This is just north of Dixon Elementary.

  • Targeted Completion: May 22, 2026.

Anticipated Impact

The closure is expected to cause a significant impact on the community and district operations.

  • Bus Routes: An estimated 30 bus routes will need to be redirected toward Calhoun and Lilly Roads.

  • Traffic Pressure: The closure is expected to increase traffic on several streets including Calhoun and Lilly Roads, North Avenue and Capitol Avenue.

  • School Travel: The closure will impact staff, students and families traveling to and from school throughout the school day.

District Adjustments (Effective Monday, January 12, 2026)

The district is implementing several changes to manage the disruption:

  • Bus Routes: Affected routes will have modified pickup and drop-off times.

    • Notification Date: Changes will be communicated via the Bus Stopfinder App the week of January 5th.

  • Dixon Elementary: Families will receive separate communication from Principal Sadowski regarding revised drop-off and pickup procedures.

  • LAUNCH Students: Students traveling between schools will receive notification with suggested alternative routes in class and via email.

  • Ongoing Monitoring: District and GoRiteway staff will observe car and bus traffic patterns and arrival/departure times, making adjustments as necessary throughout the winter and spring.
