Although we are busy wrapping up an exciting school year, we are already planning some great things for next year.

I want to let you know about a wonderful volunteer opportunity for 2026-27: The Elmbrook Education Foundation (EEF) is continuing its Intergenerational Program in all 5 of our elementary schools, which involves having volunteers work with our students on reading fluency once or twice per week from October to May. The program has been running successfully at Swanson for 3 years, at Dixon for 2 years, and at all 5 schools for the past year, and we are excited to see it continuing across the district! This year, the program reached over 190 students with 76 active volunteers! Next year, EEF will need at least 80-90 volunteers to support all 5 schools, so they are encouraging people to apply as soon as possible. (Fortunately, many volunteers from this year will be continuing next year!)

Here’s the timeline of ramping up the program to prepare for next year:

  • Applicants can apply now! (The on-line Google Form Application and the Printable Application)
  • Applicants will be contacted for brief virtual interviews (20 minutes via Zoom) throughout the summer (June-August).
  • Applicants selected for a volunteer position will be asked to complete an on-line background check process (required for all volunteers in Elmbrook Schools).
  • Volunteering schedules will be finalized in August and September based on volunteer preferences and availability and student schedules. (days of week, time slots, and school assignment)
  • Brief training and orientation sessions (1.5-2 hours) will be held for volunteers in late September/early October.
  • Volunteers will work with students 1-2 times per week from October 5, 2026, through May 6, 2027.

Here is the website with more details about the EEF Intergen Program: https://eef.elmbrookschools.org/events/intergenerational

It includes the following links and documents:

Please consider applying to be a volunteer or sub and encouraging others to do so as well! If you have any questions, please reach out to the EEF Intergen Program Co-Chairs, Deborah Nustad and Stephanie Huff, at eefintergen@gmail.com.

Thank you and have a great summer!
