Swanson Elementary kicked off Elmbrook’s author visit series for the school year in a big way, hosting the brilliant author and illustrator Salina Yoon on Wednesday, September 17. Yoon, the creator of over 160 picture books, spoke to 350 enthusiastic students from 5K to 2nd grade in the school gymnasium. The event, sponsored by Elmbrook's outstanding community partner Boswell Book Company, celebrated the release of her new book, Kat and Mouse: I Like Cheese!, which debuted just a day before her visit.

Best known for her beloved Penguin series and Duck, Duck, Porcupine series, Yoon captivated the young audience with her engaging presentation on storytelling and illustration. She shared insights into her creative process, showing students how she brings her charming characters to life through both words and art. The interactive session sparked curiosity and excitement, encouraging students to explore their own creative abilities.
