The Brookfield Barracudas (combined Central / East boys co-op swim team) delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 WIAA Division 1 State Meet, earning a second-place team finish with 248 points, finishing behind only Middleton in the final standings.

The runner-up finish caps another remarkable season for the Barracudas, highlighted by podium finishes, individual medals, and strong relay performances across the board.

The Barracudas’ depth and balance were on full display in the relays.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Luke Thomas, Benji Lu, Eric Hou and Owen Patterson placed third in 1:31.73, earning 32 team points.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Eric Hou, Benji Lu, Luke Dinusson-Wiger and Logan Loppnow captured a silver medal with a time of 1:23.40. This is both a Brookfield Central and Barracuda record.

The team closed the meet with another runner-up finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Eric Hou, Owen Patterson, Luke Thomas and Logan Loppnow combined for a 3:04.69, securing 34 points and sealing the team’s second-place overall finish. This is a Barracuda record.

"The coaching staff is proud of the runner-up finish and proud of all the student-athletes on the Barracuda team for their hard work and commitment throughout the season," said Head Coach Van Donkersgoed. "We are most proud of qualifying all 18 of 18 possible swims for state, which underscores our ongoing goal to take as many athletes into the postseason as possible."

Individual Highlights

Several Barracudas reached the podium in individual events:

  • Logan Loppnow placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (20.33) and followed with a runner-up finish in the 100-yard freestyle (45.24)
  • Luke Thomas earned fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (46.09) and added a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (49.95)
  • Eric Hou finished fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (50.04)
  • Benji Lu placed seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.32)

Additional scoring contributions came from:

  • Luke Dinusson-Wiger, eighth in the 200 IM (1:55.14) and 10th in the 100 breaststroke (58.29)
  • Tyler Stich, 10th in the 200 IM (1:57.04) and 12th in the 100 breaststroke (58.67)
  • Brady Crayne, 10th in the 500 freestyle (4:46.39)
  • Owen Patterson, seventh in the 50 freestyle (21.30) and eighth in the 100 freestyle (46.70)

The Barracudas also earned additional team points from strong finishes by Brady Crayne, Hendrik Kerwel and Maddy Karun in the distance events. Congratulations to the team and Coach Donkersgoed on another fantastic season!
