BCHS Swim and Dive

On Saturday, February 19, the Brookfield Barracudas Boys Swimming and Diving team took home their first Division 1 WIAA State Championship! The win marked a historic first for a combined program with students from both Brookfield Central and Brookfield East competing. This year’s event was held at Waukesha South where the boys won the title with a total of 208 points, 20 points ahead of Arrowhead who took second. 

Junior Stuart Seymour of Brookfield Central/East won the 100 backstroke with a time of 48.53, edging senior teammate and last year’s event winner Michael Long. The team of Jonathan Day, Michael Long, Stuart Seymour and Brady Miller earned the gold in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:31.14; and Long, Day, Seymour, and Thomas Bergin took the silver in the Boys 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. Additionally, the Boys 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team of Miller, Day, Caleb Smith, and Thomas Bergin took 7th.

Additional scores came from the following athletes:

  • Thomas Bergin: 3rd in Boys 50 Yard Freestyle, 19th in Boys 100 Yard Freestyle
  • Michael Long: 5th in Boys 200 Yard Freestyle
  • Leo Mandella: 19th in 1 Meter Diving
  • Brady Miller: 3rd in Boys 100 Yard Breaststroke, 12th in Boys 50 Yard Freestyle
  • Michael Penney: 12th in 1 Meter Diving
  • Stuart Seymour: 2nd in Boys 100 Yard Butterfly

“I am really proud of this team’s dedication and perseverance this year,” said Head Coach Van Donkersgoed. “The performance of the team underscores the incredible swimming community in Brookfield. Thank you to the district, including Don Kurth and Ben Westphal, for their support throughout the season!”
