Brookfield East High School has been recognized as a 2023 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education! National Blue Ribbon Schools are public and non-public elementary, middle, and high schools that are producing outstanding results for all students. East was nominated for its exemplary work in closing achievement gaps for all learners, one of only three high schools in the country to be recognized for that award category. Brookfield East is one of eight 2023 Wisconsin recipients, the only Wisconsin high school to receive this distinction this year, and the first high school in Waukesha County to receive the award since 2006.

“Brookfield East is a strong learning community led by teachers and educators who truly see the best within every student and help them to reach their full potential,” reflected Brookfield East Principal Andy Farley, who was named AWSA’s 2023 Wisconsin Secondary Principal of the Year in April. “Our teachers and staff create exceptional learning environments and experiences to ensure every student feels safe, appropriately challenged and supported throughout the learning process. Our staff and students model the importance of a commitment to learning and growing every day. We are so honored to have Brookfield East High School and the Elmbrook School District recognized with the prestigious recognition of a 2023 National Blue Ribbon School”

A formal awards ceremony will be held this November in Washington, D.C. for school representatives. “The honorees for our 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award have set a national example for what it means to Raise the Bar in education,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. “The leaders, educators, and staff at our National Blue Ribbon Schools continually inspire me with their dedication to fostering academic excellence and building positive school cultures that support students of all backgrounds to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.”

Now in its 40th cohort, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed approximately 10,000 awards to more than 9,700 schools. The National Blue Ribbon School award affirms and validates the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in striving for – and attaining – exemplary achievement. National Blue Ribbon Schools represent the full diversity of American schools and serve students of every background.
