During the COVID-19 pandemic, Elmbrook partnered with the Waukesha Food Pantry to distribute meals to those in need in our community. The partnership began in December 2020 and was additionally supported by volunteers from the Brookfield Elm Grove Interfaith Network (BEGIN) and GoRiteway Transportation company in response to a growing need for food security and winter clothing. Over the past 18 months of the partnership, the District and Food Pantry have served meals to nearly 300 families throughout the greater Elmbrook area through twice-monthly meal pick-up and delivery opportunities.

“Connecting with community families and being able to provide this service in a significant time of need has been incredible,” said Laura Baritt, Assistant Director of Food Services. “We are incredibly fortunate to have had such dedicated staff and volunteers to coordinate these events for the last year and a half, and are proud of the life-stabilizing outcome providing meals to others can provide.

In 2021, the Waukesha Food Pantry and BEGIN were recognized as Outstanding Community Partners for their collaborative efforts in service to our community. Elmbrook will host its last food distribution on June 2, but families in need are still able to access food resources through the Pantry directly by visiting its website at https://www.waukeshafoodpantry.org.

We are grateful to the work of our Food Service staff, the Waukesha Food Pantry, GoRiteway Transportation, volunteers from BEGIN, Project STRIVE and the students and staff of Fairview South for their service and impact on our community.
