It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Meg Wartman, former Elmbrook Board of Education President and Waukesha County Clerk, on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

A dedicated public servant and proud Elmbrook parent of three graduates, Meg devoted more than a decade of service to the School District of Elmbrook. She served on the Board of Education from 2003 to 2015, including as Board President from 2006 to 2009 and Vice President for multiple terms. Throughout her tenure, she held leadership roles across nearly every committee, including Curriculum, Personnel, Policy & Legislative, and Communications, often serving as chair and helping guide key district initiatives.

Meg was deeply committed to continuous improvement and student success. Her work on committees such as Teaching & Learning, Finance & Operations, and Assessment & Continuous Improvement reflected her thoughtful approach to governance and her focus on advancing educational excellence. In addition, she served as a liaison to numerous community and district groups, strengthening partnerships with organizations such as the Elmbrook Education Foundation, the Elmbrook Community Health Coalition, and the Village of Elm Grove.

Following her service to Elmbrook, Meg continued her commitment to public service as the Waukesha County Clerk, a role she held from 2018 until January 2026, when she stepped down following a colon cancer diagnosis.

Even after her formal roles concluded, Meg remained engaged and supportive of the district. Notably, she volunteered her time to assist the Board Clerk following the 2021 School Board Election and in the 2023 School Board Recount - acts that reflected her enduring dedication and generosity.

Meg Wartman will be remembered for her leadership, integrity, and deep commitment to the Elmbrook community. Her contributions have left a lasting impact on the district and the many students, families, and colleagues she served in the greater Waukesha area.
