This September, Elmbrook received a $60,000 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to support Transition Services for Special Education students exiting K-12 education and transitioning into adult life. The Transition Readiness Grant program was designed to support Wisconsin’s students with disabilities to successfully transition to competitive work and post-secondary education environments after high school. With the monies allocated through the grant, Elmbrook will be able to support students in the participation of Project SEARCH and the College Connect Program, an accessible wheelchair van, as well as, additional training for secondary staff to build their capacity in designing cohesive student centered transition plans and programming for students beyond the age of 18.

“We are so grateful for DPI’s support of our continued efforts in Special Education and Transition Services,” reflected Karen Knopf, Special Education Coordinator for Elmbrook. “Through these education opportunities, options for transportation, and high quality professional development, our Elmbrook staff will be able to provide a wide continuum of services for all students well into their adult life.”
