The new Elmbrook Robotics and Automation space at Brookfield East High School held an open house on Tuesday, March 19 which included a ceremonial ribbon-cutting! The event showcased student presentations in different areas around the updated space with keynotes from Richard Oakes (BEAST #2202 Robotics Founding Advisor), Sara Lieske (Robotics and Automation Educator and Robotics Advisor), Scott Wheeler (Board President), and Beth Dobrzynski (Elmbrook Education Foundation Executive Director). “Thank you to everyone that made this vision a reality,” reflected Wheeler. “Within this space, the experiences our students will be able to have will be life-changing.”

Sara Lieske highlighted the importance of the space inside and outside of the school day, stating, “the world of automation and Industry 4.0 is paving the way for careers in technology, and the labor market is searching for individuals with necessary skills. With three robotics and automation courses, six competitive teams, certification opportunities, and industry mentors - our high schools are ready to answer that call.”

Elmbrook’s Robotics and Automation Course is accessible to all students at Brookfield Central and Brookfield East, and the BEAST Robotics Team is in its 18th year and consists of students from both high schools. All speakers and student presenters expressed gratitude for the support shown by the Board of Education and Elmbrook Community in an effort to prepare our current and future students for future professions. “We all want to be a part of something that’s bigger than ourselves and we all need a place to belong and to find our passion,” stated Oakes, “and this is the place to do it.”
