From March 15-17, nine Elmbrook student speedskaters competed at the 2024 US Short Track Speedskating Age Group National Championships held in Midland, Michigan. Brookfield Central (BC) alum Aaron Liu (2023) broke a 15-year record in the Junior A Division’s 1000m - making him a two-time national champion, and current BC sophomore Aidan Liu took home the Junior C Division’s Short Track Age Group Nationals Championship - making him a three-time national champion!
Among the nine club qualifiers were three homegrown speedskaters Kelly Grover, Amber Li, and Aaron Li who started their speedskating journey with the Elmbrook Speedskating Club. Congratulations to the following athletes on their rankings:
- Aidan Liu (BCHS' 26): National Champion in the Junior C Men's Division (13-14 yrs old), representing the Pettit National Speedskating Program. Three-time National Champion for the past three consecutive years.
- Aaron Liu (BCHS' 23 Alumnus): National Champion in the Junior A & Open Men's Division (17-29 yrs old), representing the Pettit National Speedskating Program. Two-time National Champion for the past two consecutive years.
- Vannessa Chan (WHMS 7th grader): 2nd place in the Junior D Women’s Division (11-12 yrs old), representing the Pinnacle Speedskating Program
- Andrea Cao (BEHS' 25): 4th place in the Junior B Women's Division (15-16 yrs old), representing the Pettit National Speedskating Program
- Vincent Chan (BCHS ‘27): 4th place in the Junior C Men's Division (13-14 yrs old), representing the Pettit National Speedskating Program
Additional placeholders came from Maggie Wu (WHMS), Kelly Grover (WHMS), Amber Li (PPMS). This competition was open to all qualified speed skaters aged 11 years and older and was grouped by age divisions. It also served as the final event for all these skaters for this US Speedskating season.
