This December, Elmbrook’s annual Purse Project once again made a powerful impact, with all Elmbrook schools participating in a districtwide effort to support the Milwaukee Rescue Mission. Thanks to the generosity of students, staff, and families, more than 465 purses were stuffed with essential items to bring warmth, comfort, and dignity to individuals and families experiencing homelessness this winter. In addition, 38 men’s packs and briefcases were assembled, along with 35 bags of donated clothes and coats.

The project was a true community collaboration. The Facilities Department played a key role by picking up purses from schools across the District and delivering them to Fairview South, where 16 Key Club students from Brookfield East and Brookfield Central worked side by side to assemble the purses and packs.

A special contribution once again came from Food Service team member Cindi Gordon, who created 45 dignity packs and hand-crocheted 40 hats for the donation. Adding to this generosity, her son donated 38 fleece warming blankets, further helping recipients stay warm during the cold winter months.

Once delivered, the Milwaukee Rescue Mission expressed how grateful they were to receive such a large and thoughtful donation, emphasizing how meaningful these items are to the people they serve. “This annual project truly reflects the compassion and generosity of the Elmbrook community,” shared organizer Jean Loepfe. “It’s inspiring to see every school come together to support our Milwaukee neighbors in such a tangible way.”

The Purse Project continues to be a cherished Elmbrook tradition - one that brings hope, dignity, and warmth to those in need. Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s drive such an incredible success.
